I have tweaked something I my arm. It is where the arm goes into the shoulder. Seems to a small muscle there. I am in such pain I really can't believe it. I am taking ibuprofen 2x400mg. Every 4 hours but isn't really working. I have made some very lage ic e blocks and am numbing the area with that. It does help but now I am unable to lift my arm up or down. Is there anything else to be done at this stage. Will this eventually come right or should I go for physio. It is so sore I don't think I old bear anyone trying to manipulate it.

yes you should go for physio. If you don't move your shoulder at all, there is a risk that you will have limited, maybe no movement for a long time, maybe permanently. I went to a physio with an agonisingly painful knee, actually the way he moved it made it less, not more painful.
back or front, how high can you lift your arm without it hurting?
Get to the docs and ask to go for an ultra-sound scan. It sounds as if you may have torn a rotator cuff muscle. I left mine for a long time cos I was to busy at work. It has taken years to get it anywhere near right!

I can't lift it at all. It's nearly 4.30am and is keeping me awake. I have put a pillow under it because if there is any movement or pressure on it at all I cry with the pain.
You haven't said when and how you "tweaked it"

It seems that you are doing the right things at the moment.

Be patient.
rotator cuff or one of the major tendons....doctors, I am afraid - when I did mine, it was steroids 5 first day, 4 second, three third and so on - soon nailed it. Bloody painful though but it soon dissipated.

I think it was about four days ago. I reached behind me in the car to get something. I felt a slight pull but nothing major. Then it started to feel a little sore after a day now it is agonizingly sore and I can't move it.
Is the pain less when you lift hand onto opposite shoulder. A sling might help.
OK brinjal, so we are not dealing with a sudden episode.......continue the treatment for the moment and a sling as suggested by tambo is a good idea.
Question Author
Thanks for suggestions. Will try the sling if I lift the arm I can bend it at the elbow but can't get the shoulder to move at the moment.

Well after a rather disturbed night I have a predicament. I have managed to dress the bottom half but am struggling with the top half. Looks as if I am going to be stuck in the holiday apartment until my husband arrives tomorrow. I am hoping for a rapid recovery by Friday for my daughters wedding.
stand up then bend waist so you are facing floor and your chest is at right angles to your legs. Hang arms towards floor and rotate them clockwise and then anti-clockwise. xx
