Only took me a couple of days, I kept falling up the stairs at first but soon adapted.
Take them off put your old glasses back on and start again with the varis when you first wake up tomorrow morning you may find your eyes will adjust automatically. I started wearing them years ago and that was the advice I was given never had a problem
Question Author
stairs haven;t bothered me so far, its just headaches
I got on well with mine fluff, but hubbie just cant get on with them.
I never had any headaches getting used to mine x
Question Author
good idea

now where did i put the old ones???
I got mine yesterday fluffy and got two pairs as it was a bogof offer. I seem to be ok with one pair but really struggling with the other as they are smaller lenses. Wore them out last night (the bigger ones) and did notice when looking sideways it was a bit blurry but had them on today and have been fine. Think the other pair will take me a bit longer though.
Question Author
lol i keep looking sideways trying to see the blur but i haven;'t got it yet, and i keep nodding liek the bloody dog
The bigger the lens area the easier to get used to... mine have very small lenses but the hardest thing is moving your head not your eyes I sometimes had a stiffish neck at the end of the day.
You will soon get used to them,it's much easier only having one pair to worry about. If the problem persists go back to your optician.

i have to move my head becuase of my screens so i don;t think that will be a problem i expect its getting used to the new presciption
I took mine back after a couple of weeks :-(
You do have to move your head more with varifocals, especially when reading. A computer screen is fine but a hardback book is a bit more challenging. Consequently, I tend to get neck ache when reading my novels.
You will get used to them eventually so much so that you won't be able to read anything without wearing them. Now that IS a pain.

thanks

i shall persevere and hope i don;t fall over or put anything odd into dinner :-)
Hang in there, a new prescription and varifocals take a few days to get used to, the longer you are able to keep them on the easier it becomes. The headache is a combination of the different prescription and the pressure put on by yourself trying to adapt. Will be better in the morning, try not to go back to your old glasses if possible.

im trying i feel sick now :-(

i'm walkign home in a min, hopefully the fresh air will do me some good

(they may or may not have something to do with the amount of sweets i've just eaten though)
Go back to the optition and get them to check your prescrition. Although I'd had them before, the last ones I got were just as you describe, headaches etc. I tried to stick with them for a few week then took them back, turned out that they weren't fitted right and the bridge over my nose was too big. Had to have new frames which got it all sorted.
My female partner once had variofocals and even after months complained of headaches. I noticed that when she was reading, her head/neck were bent "abnormally" downwards. I told her this and she soon realised that this was the problem. Since then, many years ago, she gave up varios and went back to separate pairs of reading and medium/long distance specs. Many headaches are caused by neck-strain even if this is not obvious to the sufferer. To save unnecessary expense at first, why not READ with non-optically corrected reading specs from supermarket or Boots while only using varios for medium/long distance use. If headaches disappear then ditch varios for two separate optically corrected pairs, each for different function.
Its not really practical for me as i wear glasses full time. Since i've been home i've been fine and no probs really, will see how i get on tomorrow
Thanks all
Thanks for the info mccfluff..best wishes.
I use varifocals for close work and computer work. I don't require glasses for distance. I have developed the habit of wearing them on the end of my nose all the time and just by looking up an down can see exactly what I need to see at any time. What I could not get used to was mono vision. I gave that up after. A few weeks as my brain was too slow to adjust quick enough
