Heat rash??

I used to suffer from dermititas when I was at college because my hands were always in contact with chemicals. It stopped as soon as I left but I find now that I suffer from really bad heat rash on the back of my hands. I think it is heat rash for the obvious reason that it only happens when it is warm. I tried the cream i used for the dermatitis, prescribed by the doctor and an antihistsmine from the chemist but neither work. It is sooooo itchy and all I cant help but scratch so the skin is becoming saw and broken. Does anyone else know what else I could use.

forgot to mention that when its itchy my hands come up in tiny little white lumps, sometimes like teeny tiny blisters if that makes any difference.

It sounds like nettle rash to me. I tried to google it and came up with this site, maybe there is something on there that can help you

and of course like woofgang says, off to the docs. Even it is "only" nettle or heat rash, as this apparently is a symptom of something else that you are allergic too. Good luck

Thanks for your answers guys. Doctors on Tuesday am, that's if I havn't chopped my hands off by then. That would stop the itching wouldn't it!

I suppose, if you chopped off a foot, I think the itching would stop too, and you wouldn't have to disappoint your doctor, as he wouldn't get a chance to look at your lovely rash ;0) Sorry. How about putting some ice or some cooling lotion on it?

just tried some ice and that seemed to be temporarily effective, whilst numbing my hands also. Thanks Kaktus!

Milly i used to get contact dermatitis from beauty products that is why i had to stop doing it in the end. I still now have to wash my hands straight after putting cream on my face or anything like that because if i leave it, my hands start to dry up and crack. It is horrid and gets you down a bit as well. I would suggest that it probably is nettle or heat rash like the others say. Do you have it all the time? Have you always had it? I would certainly suggest washing you hands well and drying them well after touching any products or anything that could be the culprit but constant contact with something may keep it there as mine was because my hands would go straight back into the stuff again, not saying it works the same as contact dermatitis but these things if anything may just irritate it more. Have you changed your washing powder recently or conditioner or even hair products? If none of these things seem relevant it can also be stress related, my eczema comes out when i am though i don't think i am stressed my body tells me i am.

I too have the same problem and it is driving me mad.  It happened one morning at work about 7 weeks ago, I was opening up boxes and my hands started to itch, I put it down to the boxes being dusty.  It was also very hot and my fingers were starting to swell with the heat, so I thought either dust or heat but it hasn't went away.  I looked up the internet and came up with contact dermatitis, which can be caused by an irritant or an allergy.  I haven't had time to go to the doctor, so if you find a cure let me know.

Well im off to the docs tomorrow I will let you know what she tells me to use. I have always had heat rash (I used to get it on my tummy when I was a kid) but I do only ever get it in the summer. It seems a little bit different from the dermatitis I used to get and as I say, does not happen in winter as the dermitis did.
