For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I don't know if this makes any difference, but when we bought our house from the previous owners, they had bought it from the council a few years before ie. it is an ex-council house and so are the houses either side.
Obviously, the fences, as well as the houses, come/came under the council's responsibility to build/erect.
The fence on the side that is our neighbour's (still a council tennant) responsibility is nice side to them and the fence that is ours is nice side to us.
I'm not saying the council are perfect (lol) but I would assume that they wouldn't ordinarily go round putting up fences which would bring on neighbourly disputes!
