On top of other things i have a Detached retina, and i have been told that i am up for surgery. I have always dreaded my eyes being messed with. Can anyone tell me that they have had an eye op, and that it was really ok?

Hi Mr Piper - I haven't had an eye op (would have done if I'd been accepted for laser eye surgery), but my father has recently had cataracts removed from both of his eyes.

He was absolutely terrified at the thought - but the outcome for him has been so life-changing he is thrilled with the results.  They used copious amounts of anaesthetic and my father was unable to feel a thing - he said the worse part was seeing the actual needle coming towards him.  Afterwards his eyes were a little bloodshot but he was in no pain.

mr piper, I totally understand what you mean. My eyes are the only part of me not included on my donor card. BUT my brother had a detatched retina repaired and although it was uncomfortable for a while he had absolutely no problems. Your sight is precious and you should do whatever you can to preserve and make the most of it. Very good luck.

Truth is tracey, i don't know when i have got to go in for the op. It had better be soon as the flashes and rubbish in my eye is driving me crazy, i would like to prepare mentaly for it as it is the one thing i am very squeemish about, unless you could come and hold my hand- Dear me, can you believe i said that? It really is driving me mad. Bye
