Trying To Give Up Smoking
119 Answers
Is there a group on here at all? I did search, but cannot find one.
It's day 15 for me, and I've come very close to breaking down and lighting up, but just typing this has helped me to see the folly of my ways!
I'm not throwing 15 days away for a fag!
Would be great if there was a cheer squad/support group here, so please point me in the right direction if I've missed it.
Meanwhile, 20 a day at almost 8 quid a pack has saved me £120 already. Unimportant, however when the craving really hits!

It was made easier for me as I moved in with my partner that had beaten bone cancer that left her disabled but lost her Son to brain cancer 3 days before his 21st Birthday (today is the anniversary of his death) Smoking under her roof just seemed like an insult to her and the memory of her Son (Kevin) , so I stopped.

Thanks excelsior-1 for your encouragement :-)
RATTER, that puts it all in perspective, doesn't it. I'm piddling about with this addiction and if chips were laid out like that, I hope I could give up in a heartbeat.
Hope today isn't too sad for you and that you can celebrate his life. I'm humbled , to be honest.

I think I've answered somethng similar before! Was smoking 60 a day and gave up twice for a couple of years each time but, then succumbed again. However my sister visited me from the U.S.A. (she's also into ouji boards and ley-lines etc.,) She said to me, "when you go to bed tonight and you stub out your last fag, just imagine you're walking into a fluffy pink cloud of Candy-Flossand, when you wake up tommorow you won't want to smoke again. that was 1975 and I've not smoked since!! Try it as it may stop the pangs.
Hi beegeebee!
I'll try it! I feel much stronger after this thread anyway.
So many reasons I should give up........sick of smelling bad, sick of the cost, sick of inflicting my smoke on my darling little dog.
Every day is a bit of a struggle, so far, but I'm going to get there!
Positive thinking! :-))

It does get easier, so stick with it. I used to smoke 20 a day and then "progressed" to only drinking when I had a few beers.
At the Rangers v Queen of the South Cup final a few years back I bought my usual ten Regal to get my through the day, but my QOTS supporting pal and i were in hospitality so I had polished them off by lunchtime. I bought another ten and they went for tea time, so I bought another ten. We had a meal in Glasgow before heading out for the night so I bought another te.
I felt so ill the next day that I have NEVER smoked since. I know the illness was partly drink induced, but everything I touched the next day smelled or tasted of smoke, and I gagged repeatedly. It was the best thing that ever happened to me, and I often wonder how I ever afforded to smoke.

Well done, 15 days is a great achievement, now to aim for 20.
It's all about little steps and goals and you're obviously getting there.
Make sure you get rid of EVERYTHING, lighters, ashtrays etc and run any fags you've got hidden anywhere under the tap, rendering them useless.
Get used to saying "No thanks, I don't smoke".
Keep occupied, come on here for a 'gee-up' if it's getting to you. I smoked 30 a day so it's not easy and can sympathise but you CAN do it.
