Anybody recognise the symptoms and if we should be worried?

Male, 45 years old, normal weight, not of any medication, dull pain in upper right hand side of stomach (not severe). Very ichy skin, eyebrows falling out (yes really) and pain in right hand shoulder. Pale stools.

My OH is getting really worried and has been consulting the internet (daft I know). Can't get to see his GP until end of April.

Hi ruthandsam, I can't help with the diagnosis but does the GP not offer any emergency appointments for the same day? He should really be checked out. xx

Oooo thank you. He's convinced that he has got problems with his liver and that he is seriously ill. He's just stressing that's all. I take it in my stride.

I know that I should wait until he has some tests done but I was hoping to put his mind slightly at rest.

Inflamation of the stomach lining?

Stomach ulcer?

Not sure about the eyebrows and ichy skin though.

There are these people....erm what are they called....erm...oh yes, Doctors, that's it. Apparently you can go and see one and they'll tell you what's wrong and everything.

If it *is* gall-stones (which the itchy-skin and pale stools suggest) the pain he feels will intensify.
Contact your GP and *stamp* until you get an earlier date......

zacs he said he can't see one until end of April - but we would have in northern ireland a doctor 24/7 he is called a Bell -Doc

What about going to an "Out of Hours" surgery? You'll probably be sitting in the waiting room for a few hours but at least you'll be seen before end of April.

End of April. What a crock of sh*t. Don't let those receptionists bully you. Most surgeries have some appointments each day which are set aside for emergencies. You don't say how long these symptoms have been going on. But you plainly need to get this looked at and 2 weeks is just too long.

B00, i've had to wait a whole month to see my doctor before now, the usual wait for an appointment is 2-3 weeks at our surgery.

daffy my surgery is the same. I phoned yesterday to see my own GP and his first free appointment is the 7th of May! However, I can phone up on Monday morning for an "emergency appointment" meaning I will see someone that same day, it just won't be my own GP.

Gotta admit it's been a few years since ive needed to go to the doctors, so things might have changed at mine also, but the most I waited then was a couple of days.

Wow, can't believe how long some of you have to wait for a GP appointment. If I don't specify a particular doctor I can usually see one either that day or the next. Must be lucky at my health centre.

Same here Maggie. If I want to see my GP I'd have to wait until she was free which could be 3 to 4 weeks. If there are any other GPs available then 2 - 3 days.

Ours have a number of emergency appointments scheduled for each day - you ring at 8:30 and ask for an emergency appointment.

Obviously there's a strong chance it'll be engaged but we normally get through after a few attempts

Check their opening hours ring bang on the dot and ask for an emergency appointment

How is is appetite?
Does he feel nauseous?

How long has the pain been present?

agree with sqad you only feel real pain on the liver when its bad i have alcoholic hepatitis(not infectious) which literally means inflammation of the liver which causes me a dull pain.

im NOT calling your partner an alcoholic.

Are his eyes showing a yellowish colour? Sounds like liver problem. Infective hepatitis seems likely. I would not wait for an appointment but insist on seeing your GP same day.
