Recurring Dreams...

I know tales told of other peoples dreams can be boring, please bear with me.

I have a recurring dream where I am in 'my' house (it's not a house i've ever seen but is familiar to me now) and there is another level to the house which needs refurbished but only I enter it.

I know every nook and cranny of this house as well as the 'secret' part.

Even now I could describe this house and its location down to the curtains...I visit it every night in my sleep.

How strange.....does anyone else have a recurring dream like this? It has started to bother me as it seems real now !

What do you think and have you ever ever experienced this type of 'dream' ?

No. When I was a small child there was a recurring dream but not ever since.

I think you have a recurring dream. Maybe your subconscious is in some kind of rut.

Yes I have house dreams often. It's said that the house represents yourself so maybe part of your life that you've been keeping quiet about needs attention?

house = body, according to one theory, or "yourself" as Robinia says. I have very occasional dreams about "my house", which is a little bit like real houses I have lived in but also has forgotten rooms and tends to be a bit crumbly in parts. That does sound like my body, alas.

Yes, I have, on more than one occasion, but not for many years. There were a couple of different scenarios, and after the first one, it felt quite comfortable because I kind of knew what would happen next.

jno, one of them has been a "shut rooms" dream - where there are several rooms we don't live in, I can go in there, but it's not my furniture, and it's neglected.

I had a whole series of house dreams where each one was bigger and better than the last. The final one was a fabulous place with a big wide sweeping staircase leading down to one of those black and white tiled entrance halls with a huge piano.

Robinia, my "house" has certainly grown more capacious as I have aged... passers-by marvel at the size of my frontage but notice the cracks in the walls :-(

kylesmum Stugying peoples dreams is now quite common in mainstream Pychology, but usually backed up with in depth counselling so this analysis is just for fun :-). The house represents 'you', your subconscious thoughts. If the level that requires some 'refurbishment'is below ground, then this suggests there are some deep-seated issues you need to address, but only you can address them. if the level is on the top of your house, then this suggests you feel you could do better or achieve more in your life, and that you and only you can make this happen and achieve your goals. The fact you visit this house every night indicates that your subconcious really needs to get through to you its time to be proactive and kick start yourelf.

Freud described dreams as the royal road to the unconscious. I agree with the other posters when they say that the level which needs refurbishment is a representation of an aspect of your life which you feel needs attention.

TM - my unused rooms are at the side of my house, in an annexe - how is that interpreted?

boxtops,I'm no expert but I would say your annex could be addressing issues that you've put to one side, either because life got in the way, or they are too painful to think about. It really depends on the Annex, is it large,intimidating, magnificent ,awe inspiring, small shabby, falling down? Then think how you feel when you look at the annex: happy,sad,frightened. Dream analysis and symbols are not one size fits all, thats why if you have a proper session the analyst chats for quite a while on how you feel about your dream. Often your unconscious or subconscious uses symbols you will recognise in your conscious state so an Annex to the side of your house would mean something belonging to you (aspirations,memories) not part of your everyday life but related in some way to your life. (or just the fact you've been thinking about getting an extension to your house, really dreams are sometimes just thoughts left over from your day to day life)

I have a dream where I go back to my first property which was a little flat and I am living there. I then remember that I don`t live there anymore and the owner is going to come home and I have to get out before he finds me. After I sold my Mum`s house, I started dreaming that we had gone down to stay there for the weekend but we have to get out quick as the owners are coming for the weekend and we shouldn`t be there. I don`t think there`s something deep and meaningful about that - just that I`m bloody glad I don`t live in the flat anymore and I wish we still had my Mum`s house.

I have a recurring dream where I'm reading a newspaper. I'm holding the newspaper and I'm obviously dreaming up the stories I'm reading but it feels very real.

Maybe it's my brains way of telling me I need some mental stimulation.

I had something similar for a while - some time ago now though - I don't really dream at all so it was all the more prominent. My dream was that I had acquired a house (not sure how) but it was massive with dozens of rooms and a very large grand atrium staircase. It was slightly run down but over the course of the dreams I explored it more and more and found a secret 'wing' which was ornately furnished and decorated to a very high standard, with sun shining through the windows. The house was completely empty an unlived in, but this area looked like somebody had lived there in just that part and left it that morning.

The dreams stopped after finding the room, so I put it down to some subconscious message that I have something within my run down decrepit self that is valuable and attractive and I just need to look and find it.

I'm not a tree hugger or anything, but that is what I took from it. Otherwise its meaningless hangovers of stress and overthought.

Octavius, your dream is not unlike mine. My annexe is grubby and spiderwebby but otherwise in good closed-up condition (in fact, a bit like my house at the moment... :-)
