Prostrate Cancer

What are the early signs and symptoms of Prostrate Cancer? My Partner is 42 and is worried he might be showing symptoms. He's arranged to see his octor, but I just wondered if anyone out there could help?

I think wanting to go a lot in the night but having difficulty with a good flow is a symptom. I'm no expert but isn't 42 rather young for an enlarged prostate to cause problems? It might be quite benign anyway and not cancer.
Sqad is your man, he's around somewhere!

Hi San
I have prostate cancer and was diagnosed in July2010 following my 3rd biopsy. As Sqad has said, sometimes there are little if any symptoms. A visit to the Dr for a PSA test will determine whether or not he will need further investigation. A normal reading for PSA is around the 4 mark (at least it used to be, don't know if they've shifted the goalposts !) - when I was diagnosed my PSA was 13.9 !! Having said that, a man can have a low PSA yet still have cancer. Other symptoms of an ENLARGED PROSTATE are as Sqad has said, poor flow, difficulty in peeing, feeling like your bladder isn't empty and sometimes the need to get up several times during the night. These DO NOT indicate cancer every time though. If Sqad reads this, perhaps he could say what he thinks about the PSA test.
Wish your partner well.

;-)...well it may be a good indicator of success of treatment, but I am not a keen fan on it's diagnostic skills. Normal PSA does not exclude a prostate cancer and the very rare small cell cancer which is highly aggressive often has a low PSA.
The good news is that 90%+of prostate cancers are amenable to treatment and are very slowly growing.
