I'm off to Tunisia next week and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what sun creams/protection to use. I have tried and tested 100's! I'm not too worried about the rash, it's the prickling itch that drives me mad. Obviously I can't stay out of the sun totally for the whole week. All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hello, you may have tried this but i have found that using hypoallergenic sun creams makes a difference, piz buin do a good one. make sure you don't burn, keep hydrated - i'm sure you've heard this all before. You could also try taking an anti-histamine (sp?) each morning, one of those 12-hour non-drowsy types would be good. When i got this in Las Vegas that was what the pharmacist gave me although they were drowsy ones and i kept falling asleep in restaurants!! Have a good holiday!
I use Eurax for prickly heat, over the counter at the chemist. I used to get it really badly when i was a child, and my mum would make me sit in a luke warm bath with bicarbonate of soda in it, which again helps with the itching! It's so irritating. otherwise, just be sensible, stay out of the sun, esp at peak times, and cover up - all the things we should do anyway really. But do have a fab time.
I also use Eurax lotion for prickly heat rash.Lanacane cream and talc is quite good too.Very cooling. And ..good old calamine lotion can help.I always get it across my chest and the tops of my arms. I have found that by putting one of those gel hot and cold packs in the fridge and holding that against the rash it has a cooling effect. What has been said in the previous posts is all very good advice too.Have a good time.
i only started getting prickly heat when i visited Australia - but i think it was after getting burnt. as above, take anti-hystamine but take it 2 weeks prior to going away and while you're there too. Don't use any aftersun creams just E45 cream which shouldnt irritate. i also bought tablets called Phytomer Bronze starters. Apprently they prime skin that is sensitive 2 weeks before going on hols and will help to give you a better tan. i got them from the "edirectory.co.uk. Have a great time!
wow i went through the same exact thing on my trip in bahamas last week it was horrible i had such a bad rash on my chest and then on top of my arms the itching i went through made me cry, the chest started 2 years ago and my dermatologist told me it was fungus n gave me some creams. in bahamas i had used spf 15 on my chest i just think no matter what you use if you have that problem and you go places where the sun is strong its just going to come back because in new york i dont have a problem
