Kind of embarrassing to have my pal stay over and him complain that I snore. I wondered if anyone had found any remedies that worked?

How long do you have before the arrival of your pal, to sort out your snoring?

Any time Sqad. It's not very often - just convenience to save him driving. And yes it does seem a bit rude but we just have that sort of relationship where we tease each other all the time.
Nip to the chemist and get Otrivine Nasal Spray and give your nose a good" blast" before going to bed, whilst your mate is here.

Might work in the short term.

Sqad I also have Nasonex- is this similar and should I use both?
It does seem a bit rude I suppose but I used to dread my mother coming to stay because her snoring kept us awake, when you are tired it's difficult not to say something (I even threw a cushion at her once when we were sharing a hotel room, I was exhausted). I've not any experience but aren't there clip things that you stick over your nose that can help?
Ah! Nasonex is a steroid......Otrivine is an antihistamine and more of a decongestant than Nasonex.

Just for his visit use Otrivine......NOT both.
\\\ but aren't there clip things that you stick over your nose that can help?\\

Bu99er all use.
Ignore those then!

I will try but surely a nasal spray won't stop a wobbly vibrating soft palate?!
\\I will try but surely a nasal spray won't stop a wobbly vibrating soft palate?!\\

Ah!.......now you are coming clean.....you have made the diagnosis yourself OR you have seen a ENT surgeon.

Now........if you are correct in the diagnosis of a soft palate problem causing the snoring, then you are correct......nasal sprays will be useless, in which case there is nothing that you can do short term.

No I haven't been diagnosed - I just read up in it once! And thought that was what caused snoring. I have snored all my life really, so don't think a blocked nose is the cause necessarily?
Try to avoid sleeping on your back, that seems to ne a problem area
seekerz, short of the cotton reel sewn on the back of the jammies trick, or bondage, there is no way of controlling someone's sleeping position once the person is asleep
My husband was a snorer & eventually got diagnosed with sleep apnoea. He was a back sleeper too.He now wears a small backpack stuffed with towels ,when he goes to bed. This stops him rolling onto his back.Initially it used to wake him up,but he got used to it.No more snoring & thankfully no more apnoea.[His driving licence was revoked for a while]There are lots of suggestions on sleep apnoea messageboards. It only took him a few weeks & then the Sleep Clinic said his snoring & apnoea were under control & he got his licence back. You probably don't have apnoea yet,but longterm snoring can lead to it,according to the Sleep Clinic.Nip it in the bud now.Good Luck.
Buy your pal some earplugs - Job done.
Try here - it works.
