72 Answers
Hi there I cant believe it. (Im getting like victor meldrew!!) I applied for housing to a council in England and I sent off a medical form and I was awared no points when I enquiried about it I was told it was assessed by a health visitor, not a nurse or a doctor that is ridicolus health visitors are not doctors and they should not be placed with the responsibility of making decisions that affect peoples lives. Who are health visitors? Glorified bum wipers!!

If you have filled in a medical assessment form then a nurse (be it an HV, a GP practice nurse, or a district nurse) is better placed to check the form with you then a doctor, whose hours are far more expensive and are better utilised to look after patients who are sick. You're not going to get far in the English health system if you start off with this attitude.
There you are, gordie, it's NORMAL PRACTICE in England for a health professional to do the assessment. http:// england .shelte r.org.u k/get_a dvice/s ocial_h ousing/ applyin g_for_s ocial_h ousing/ who_get s_prior ity
They won't be doing it without training to do so. Just tell us what and who you think health visitors are. You have insulted a whole branch of the nursing profession, there are thousands of HVs across the UK.

We know you are trying to get a job. Why don't you do it the other way round? - apply for jobs in England, THEN look for housing? That's how I've always done it, when I've moved about the UK with work (yes, including moving to Scotland for a job I wanted). Get the job, then sort out housing. No point applying for social housing in place A if the job might not be in that area.
I am suffering from depression and anxiety which is being made worse by my present house 2 miles away from my interfering aged parents and as the only one in the family not married with children I sure as hell wont be looking after them I am getting homophobic abuse being shouted at by some idiot out of a car window I am gay and 45 miles away from nearest gay community feeling isolated my brother lives in Stockport near Manchester so I should get points for that. And God forbid this country gets independence then I am getting out of here fast as possible. I lived in Manchester for 5 years before so I am desperate to get back I only came up for a week because I had no money and I have been up here for 12 years. I refuse to be a victim anymore
Gordie, you could go to any big city in England for a gay community. Bristol, Brighton, London. Don't just go where your brother is. And I really don't understand why you should get housing points to live near your brother. I don't want to depress you further, but homophobia is found in lots of places. Why should it be diffferent after independence?
How do your parents interfere, btw?
