Dnr Forms

When I went to the hospital today to see ny dad, Ias told that a DNR form had been applied to my dad's notes. I understand what a DNR form is but am unclear as to whether it can be a doctor's decision to set this up.

Can someone clarify this for me please?

I spoke to the ward sister today and she showed me the notes. Apparently, this is a medical decision by the consultant because of all my dad's underlying medical problems. If his heart stops, they will not do CPR.

You have my sympathy, Tilly. Back in 1998 we ( my family and I ) also found DNR on my moms notes. No one had asked us about it either.

I only have to be informed, I don't have to be asked.

My gramps had DNR in his notes. He withdrew it. It's his/yours decision.

Dad's a bit out of it at the moment. He's very tired and sleepy. In the last four days, I have only seen him awake once. I haven't had a chance to discuss this with him.

If you, your siblings, don't want a DNR then withdraw it.

The doctor is acting in what he thinks is your dads best interest.

Have the hospital discussed it with him? As they have told you, they should also be happy to explain the reasoning.

Are you unhappy about the decision Tilly? Or were you just wondering about the way it's been done?

Fom what I understand, the decision has been made without discussing it with dad.
The decision has been made because he has such a long list of medical problems, not least, pneumoconiosis, or black lung disease from his years of working in the mines.

He often says to me that he's 'had enough'. He would say the same to the consultant.

I am not unhappy about it, pixie. As you say, I just wanted to know how the decision had been made. I was frightened that I would be asked to decide.

If you leave things as they are the decision is now out of your hands, Tilly.
