Can anyone explain why a nice deep sun tan achieved in another country only lasts a few weeks yet a tan got in uk lasts a lot longer.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I believe it is beacause when you get a tan in the UK it is built up over time and for some reason (I don't know why) this lasts longer than a tan acheived in another country when you are likely to be on holiday and are so tanned more quickly over a shorter period of time. The same applies for if you reapply suncream frequently and so tan slowly. Also, if you are lookin for a tan to last longer, using moisturiser a lot apparently helps!
apparently any tan that you get in less than 5 days is actually a burn, it just burns the top layer of skin so as soon as your skin heals it goes away as the old skin sloughs off. In england like sophie says it is usually a deeper tan because it takes longer to build up, it goes further than the first layer of skin and so it stays around longer afterwards
