"the man came to be a living soul" says Genisis of Adam - the bible is harmonious in its rendering of the soul as being the living breathing organism of both animals and humans - The idea of the soul being something spirity and apart from the physical is not bible-bases but comes from the pagan religions of the world who believe in the immortality of the soul and it transmigration throughout time into different forms.
The bible however teaches that the body the living soul when it finally dies goes back to the dust where it came from (physiologically speaking) and all thoughts perish - NOTHING! until the time of the Rseurrection which will come sometime in the future following the Great day of God the Almighty at the battle of Armageddon.
JKWnCA. I would say no. If we take the 'standard' or dictionary meaning of soul,
[The animating and vital principle in humans, credited with the faculties of thought, action, and emotion and often conceived as an immaterial entity]
I would guess that identical twins can not have one soul. I think there are other metaphysical abilities or phenomenon that set them apart and intrinsically link them together. But their souls are unique.
No-one is listening!
there is no "soul" ............apart from you as a living human person
question where and why have you all got this strange concept about the "soul" when all it means is breather whether fish foul beast or human! Question why and where did you get the idea from........dont just believe because...............................
alegeegee - how can you say that whilst quoting passages from the bible!! If ever there was a case of not believing everything you read.
We are talking about the 'soul' in general terms, call it personality, call it will, call it whatever you like - it's a philosophical question as it can never be answered anyway.

you are missing the point I'm afraid
The point I'm Making is that the word we use as Soul has 'originated' from the bible and has been adopted within all kind of languages and religions - without its use there, there would be no question and therefore no answers required.
Soul =Hebrew=Nephesh whilst Greek+Pnuema - both mean the breathing individual - in other words the living body/person - not some airyfairy thing that floats around. So you are correct THAT doesnt exist!
The word 'hello' originates from 'halloo' - a cry to urge on hunting dogs, but you don't need me to explain what i mean when i say hello.
If we had to refer to the origins of every word we use, we'd be speaking hebrew. We all know what JKWnCA meant when s/he asked the question and I don't think whether the term 'soul' is officially correct or not has anything to do with it.
God doesn't exist, but I understand what the word refers to without explanation.

is the emphasis on english or bird - I was thinking of the brain aspect?
I say this because you must clearly be sorrowfully brainless to make the statement that God does not exist.
if you are an atheist then enjoy!
But enjoy with self-indulgence along with all the other doubters. However please refrain from making statements as if they are fact, when you dont have a scrap of substantiation for doing so. There is ample testimony in the world around us of an intelligent designer and creator, probably the greatest and unequevical piece of evidence is the human brain itself (whether bird- like or otherwise). Most people choose to use the expession God.

I was trying to make a point, and it seems to have worked :o)
You 'believe' that god exists, I do not, however if someone were to ask a philosophical question about god, I would understand that question without having to denounce 'his' existance.
You denounced the possibility of there being a soul in the context of the original question, that is what i was taking objection to. That is your belief and one which you have every right to hold, but you have to open your mind that there are not only other belief's - there are other possibilities.
The reason why there are different religions and different beliefs is that none of them can be proved.
If you wish to continue this conversation, I think we should use a different thread rather than hijacking JKWnCA's, who i'm sure is becoming bored of us :o)
So, my new question, "Can identical twins have one center?"
well i have an identical twin sister, and what you were saying about this, "nonverbal exchange" has happned many times with us too. I think, growing up with someone and sharing so much with them.. also having that unique bond where you have been together since conception is absolutely amazing and im so proud to be a twin. I dont for a minute belive that we have one "soul" or "centre".. becaus it , to me anyway, is plainly obvious that we do not.. we are very different people. I do belive that twins are twins for a reason.. and that myself and twin sister were meant to grow up together and always have eachother in our lives. There is something very strange and special about the bond between twins.. and if you can manage to telepathically echange information of any kind then use it to your advantage!!! myself and twin sister always have!!!! There is something unexplainable between twins, and i do believe that our souls, or centres are very closely matched, or partnered in some crazy way.. but as to having one between us.. i dont think thats the case!!
p.s) congrats on communicating with your twin that way. its a truly amazing gift!!!!
