Went back to doctors and they told me it could take up to 2 or 3 weeks to right itself, which it did. Whatever you do dont put in ear drops as this could make amtters a whole lot worse. I would definately go back to you doctor
Yes, go to your doctor again if his treatment hasn't cleared your problem. Have you had antibiotics by mouth? These tend not to work as well as antibiotic eardrops, acutally. You might need referral to the ENT Clinic so that your ear can be examined, a swab taken to see if there is any infection and if so what antibiotic would treat it best, and possibly have all the muck and gunge sucked out to clean the ear. You might have a perforated eardrum, or it could be an infection in the ear canal, so you should get it checked out. Most important is to keep your ear dry, and don't try to clean it with a cotton bud. Hope you get it sorted out.
If you are experiencing itching as well as discharge it could be otitis externa which is basically an eczema type condition. This can lead to infection which can ultimately require antibiotics. I suffer from this problem quite often and my doctor prescribes a spray called OTOMAX which is a hydrocortisone and antibiotic combined, it works really well. Also cotton wool with a drop of tea tree oil placed just inside the ear is quite effective.
