Ok, 16 year old daughter, fit, healthy, hard working, about 2 months ago suddenly, after eating dinner (Birds eye cod in breadcrumbs), was violently sick with diarrhea....virtually no warning. This was followed by lower abdominal cramps and a slight temperature.

Next day she was back a college, a bit groggy but ok.

Forward 6 weeks and she gets the same, walking home, she only just makes it to the door. Visit the GP who sends her straight up hospital A&E with poss appendicitis. Checked out and every thing fine.

This week, she's been feeling sick and has the stomach cramps again so she goes back to the GP who says she has Gastroenteritis and prescribes her some pills (not sure what they are at the moment)

She's just come home and thrown up every where and has diarrhea again and the stomach cramps and slight temp.

She didn't want me to call the doc or for an ambulance....she's now sleeping it off.

Now i thought Gastroenteritis was a one off thing, a kind of bug, but this has been going on for a while. She had a milkshake earlier bu she drinks milk every day with cereal so it can't be lactose intolerant.

Anyone have any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance

Were the tablets Lansoprazole or Omeprazole?

I've had gastroenteritis more than one over quick succession (before alcohol became an issue). The GP originally put it down to my diet.

Someone will come along soon and give you more specific answers/theories.
Sorry to be no help, just to say my daughter vomits after milkshake regularly, she isn't lactose intolerant as far as I know, I have no idea why this happens either.

Just checked and it's Lansoprazole.

Just checked her and she's been sick a little more since posting but she now feels fine and is looking to go over her boyfriend's tonight (no...she's not preggers....I HOPE !!!!) lol

Ah, now Gastritis looks a good bet.
Coeliac?
I've got gastritis and take Omeprazole, it's never caused me to be sick or have diarrhoea.
rockyracoon: Different for everyone I suppose. I've never had diarrhea with either gastroenteritis, gastritis or pancreatitis.
Aged 16 years......hard working....probably exams coming up....2 things come to mind......mesenteric adenitis or more likely IBS.......both stress related.
Sqad: Can you get vomiting with IBS? I'm not questioning your knowledge I just wasn't aware that IBS came with that symptom; or could it be both combined?
Dismo...yes you can.

It used to be called Periodic Cyclical Vomiting, but apparently is now referred to as IBS with Vomiting.........take your pick.

Whichever, stress plays an important part.
Hammerman, morning. How's your daughter now?
