local bodybuilder here in belfast has just died of heart attack. he was ranked no6 apparently in world in his weight. few years ago a couple of football players dropped dead from heart attacks. 15 years ago a very good friend of mine 26yr old went to doctor, doctor told him he had cancer, 4-6 months to live, he is now dead, this guy was one of the nicest most genuine people i have ever come across. i questioned my life, ive been really bad in my life, spent more than 12 years in prison though thats behind me now.

my granny who is 78 smokes 60 ciggies a day and is still alive and kicking.

seems life is so unfair.

what do you do now, live life everyday like its your last , live from day to day ? or save your heart out for your retirement ( which may never come)

it's a puzzle that's for sure. I think there is a middle way perhaps - have an awareness that there won't always be a tomorrow, but don't let it overshadow your life?
It always seems to me that being a nice person is a very poor prognistic indicator!

LOL....LOL
Life is a gamble diesel....no guarantees....you play the odds.

Smoking is likely to kill you.
Drinking alcohol in excess is likely to kill you.
Being fat is likely to kill you.
Taking no exercise is likely to kill you.

So diesel. make your choice and play the odds.
DD...stop worrying.....and you don't have to live each day like it's your last....you'll be exhausted and broke....
Just enjoy each day......or not....as you choose and worry not about who died when and how they lived.....that won't tell you anything....Gx
is that why you're still going sqad?
Those people that you mention who had heart attacks at a young age probably had congenital heart defects and it was only a matter of time before something triggered them off.
Thanks Sqad, I probably won't see tomorrow!
Even nice people get cancer ( yes I'm one )

actually I found it v hurtful ( this is not aimed at you DD ) when fundamentalists made it clear I was being punished by God. for my sins ( not I think the Sins of all men ). He got cancer a few years later and really he was one of the nicest bible thumpers I have met.

Your weight lifting fren' will there be an inquest ?
very likely he was abusing clenbuterol

makes you think dunnit
Bloke round the corner used to jog 5 miles nearly every night, he died in his early thirties, I do not get much excercise and smoke and I outlived him by several years.

i used to run 10 mile a day, now i dont do anything in 2 years. i remember an old guy once said to me " you can do all the exercise you like and have big muscles etc but you will never fight age or fate "

makes me wonder
I worked with someone who planned to retire at 40, go and live in Tuscany and live happily ever after. He lived VERY frugally, went nowhere, had NO social life, spent no money, just saved and saved and saved. He died at 39. His family inherited the fortune he'd amassed.
/i used to run 10 mile a day, now i dont do anything in 2 years. i remember an old guy once said to me " you can do all the exercise you like and have big muscles etc but you will never fight age or fate /

That makes no sense, exercise and healthy living are exactly the ways we can combat age and fate.
I wouldn't suspect that bodybuilding is a healthy thing to do, to be honest. Just because someone thinks a lot about what they look like, it doesn't make it healthy. The elderly people that have the most joint problems that I know, are those that did a lot of high impact sports, or football, etc. I guess the best are those most natural for your body....swimming, walking, general all-day activity. Not sitting in an office for 8 hours and hitting a gym.
pixie374 there's not much of a difference between bodybuilding, logging, farming and fishing which all keep you fit, healthy and strong
I'm not too convinced of that... Often what is good for your cardiovascular is bad for your joints. Not sure how natural bodybuilding is, maybe depends how far you take it.
Better a pounding heart, sludge free arteries and a few creaky joints then a limp and lifeless heart I always say.
my friend's mother smoked her wee brains out until she was 93 - what do you do- my attitude is - the day you are born - beside it is the day you die.
Being alive is certain to kill you in the end! 100%, BELIEVE ME!

I stopped worrying some years ago when I read a study (American) which stated that lettuce had been proved to be a carcinogen. It is, if you feed mice with nothing else.

I kept very fit (now have arthritis and 2 artificial hips) ate healthily (am a stone overweight thanks to the menopause and decalcification has set in - my menopause has been going 15 years - how's that for a kick in the teeth?)

I was friends with a marathon runner, thin as a stick, hugely healthy by all medical tests and he dropped dead in the shower after a couple of miles lunch-time run aged 56.

Best just to do the things our parents said 'a little of what you fancy does you good' and ignore most medical advice apart from keeping active. They're on a numbers game anyway.
