Sitting watching the TV last night, when a wasp crawled up my trouser leg and stung me several times, on the shin and calf.
The pain was excruciating for about 20 minutes and was still painful and throbbing for 3 hours after!

So, I'm looking for a quick and effective way to treat any future stings, please.

Nasty things wasps, they sting for the hell of it !!
I remember a friend's boxer dog seeing a wasp flying by and closing his mouth over it. A few minutes of jaw movement later, his mouth opened, and the wasp flew out and away. Cue a mouth full of stings which needed vet attention!
My lovely Tara (now deceased) was stung by a wasp and her muzzle started to swell up, had to rush her to the vets, but she was OK thank goodness.

A scare story put about by wasps to let them get away with being annoying little front bottoms or

It's only released during prolonged combat.
