Type 2 Diabetic

Mr M has been type 2, on insulin. for 32 years with hardly any problems however - just recently his blood sugar levels have been very low. So much so that he's almost had to stop his insulin. Any idea's folk as to why this is happening?

i thought Type 2 was tablet and Type one was insulin. Just got a test for diabetic test today - hope it is no type.

That story doesn't ring true.

Is he a Type 1 or a Type 2 diabetic? If as you say he is a Type 2, then he must have been a poorly controlled diabetic to have to go on Insulin and a poorly controlled Type 2 diabetic rarely comes off Insulin.

What are his blood sugar levels and when did he take them?

He may need to reduce his Insulin dosage if this is the case, so go back to your GP.

He's been type 2 diabetic for 32 years, very well controlled up until now. Doctor has always been happy with how he manages his insulin and blood sugar levels which, until recently, have been between 5 and 10 give or take. These last few weeks he's often been 1.5 - 4. He has a new nurse with new ideas, she changed the length of his needles and told him to inject in different places but surely that wouldn't cause the change in levels??

LOL...I agree with you.

No idea why it is happening, but he certainly needs to reduce his dose of Insulin. You need to talk to the diabetic doctor.

1.5-4 blood levels....surely he is hypoglycaemic...........?

Sometimes sqad - if he goes low he has a glucose drink or Mars bar for a quick fix. His insulin doses are very low now. He's off to the nurse this week. Thanks for the chat!
