I ask, because a young woman is breastfeeding her 2 year old son now in my local cafe.

i suppose it could upset people of a sensitive nature if she's serving tables at the same time

wow what a result!!! i didn´t realise this was a popular topic.
as most abers know every time i post something i´m usually lucky if i go beyond 12 answers. What was she like, i can say without any exaggeration she was model material. and that kid had an appetite, he was still drinking(yes arent i polite) his moms milk after 30 mins, and he must´ve been about 2 1/2 yrs old

Some folks do over do it tbh.

one more thing to be said about this contentious issue. the lady in question was fairly discreet, she was sitting with her back to most other customers, i just happen to be in my usual seat where i habitually sit, she might have been there longer than i thought, as i was spending ages writing a long email to a friend, and when i finished i looked away from the screen and got this almost literally in my face, she was that close, yes i felt a right t!t staring at her. no she wasn´t completely topless, yes she was south american and fairly pretty, chatting to her partner at the same time as she was feeding her child, it looked as if she´d done it many times before because she looked so natural, and solved the problem of the wailing bawling child.
sorry for misleading you ummmm, it wasn´t my intention, it was an educated guess, the child was too big to be cradled, or held in his moms arms, he had to sit on his moms lap, he had to be between 2 to 2 1/2, i´m not sure i could have the nerve to ask the mom if i see her again this week or any other week.
No problem at all with young babies being breastfed in public.
After a baby has been weaned, though, there's no need for it as the parent has alternative choices for feeding their child.
You have to draw a line somewhere (or you end up in David Walliams' "Bitty" scenario) and weaning seems to be the appropriate place to draw it.
But I suppose there isn't a law against doing it much later ...
