What sort of hernia?

They're not life threatening but I'd suggest packing a light suitcase!

Great sense of humour! Doc has said its a piece of bowel come through just above naval, whole stomach is a bit bloated, he said thats wind because of hernia. Other than this Im a fit 9stone 49 year old.

I work in the operating theatre and actually had my umbilical hernia(that's what you've been diagnosed with by the sounds of it) repaired at the end of June.

It was relatively pain free and I had a small piece of mesh inserted(which they do in some cases) in order to prevent a recurrence.  Like you(I suspect), prior to the op I had to push the bowel/omentum back through the hernia from time to time, which caused a little discomfort but nothing drastic.

All has been fine since the op but as irisred says I'd take it easy with heavy luggage until you get it sorted.

Hope that helps.
