An oft asked question , no doubt many complex reasons - I for one am glad they are. On the odd occasion I have been dealt with by a female it hasn't gone well.

I know that is purely personal.

Same answer as to why ALL Consultants are male.
Female doctors usually go into specialties that are baby and family friendly...9-5 weekends and evenings off. Women doctors mainly go for the "easy options"..e.g well baby clinic...etc whilst men tend to go for the "front-line " specialties"...surgery, obstetrics, Acute medicine etc and that it the problem with the NHS......too many female part-time doctors.

Sqad, I sometimes wonder if you are stuck in the Middle Ages.

I have seen numerous female consultants and none of them were for solely female problems.

I seem to recall that there is a lady surgeon, in South Wales, who specialises in men's bits....Miss Somebody or Other ?

Yes, I read it. My male cousin chose dermatology as it was 9-5, no weekends, few emergencies and allowed plenty of time for golf.

Mikey - there was a female urologist who specialised in 'mens problems', who was based up at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan up here in North Wales - think HTV Wales did a documentary on her some years ago. Inserting rods and water pumps to solve Dysfunction certainly made my eyes water. Can't remember her name though

Sqad...I am sure her name was Miss Jones, or something like it. I saw her on the Telly a few years ago explaining how she was going to do a sex change on a chap, and what exactly she was proposing to do with his tackle.

As you can imagine, I didn't watch the complete program however !

The gynaecologist who performed by my bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy and hysterectomy last Thurs is female, as are a couple of her Registrars.

I've found that Gynaecologists tend to fall into two camps, those who are utterly charming, pleasant, gentlemanly and a joy to be treated by and the rest.....blunt, rough (in every way) and devoid of any charm whatsoever.

Fortunately I have met many more of the first kind than the second, and I have found women to belong to both camps ...though more of them seem to fall into the second than the first.

Have to agree with sqad, though, as to why most are men....family friendly and all that.....though I would never agree with his idea that the problem with the NHS is too many part time women doctors. It's a lot more complex than that.
My own view of part-timers in any workplace is that you get more for your money with 2 half-time people than one full time.
Just my opinions.
