My brother has just had a gall bladder op. A large stone was pressing on the bile duct so the gall bladder was removed. He is getting the staples removed on the 10th day after the op. My qn is how for long should he avoid driving or lifting anything heavy? Thank you.

don't know whether it would be akin to a lady having a caeserean but next door neighbour was told she isn't allowed to drive for 6 weeks.
That's is about right. Mr A got the same advice when he had his hernia op.

Thank you jenny and sharon.
Varies from person to person, but just a general idea:

Keyhole gall bladder removal......about 7-10 days.
Open operation (large incision)...about 4-6 weeks.
we generally advise patients when they feel they can perform an emergency without hurting themselves (generally up to six weeks) but everyone heals differently
Perform an emergency ? :-)
