Severe Pain In One Ankle

For some months now I have been getting pains in my right ankle, worse when I'm driving but it comes and goes. And sometimes it moves up the shin.
A couple of painkillers, aspirin, usually helps but today it has been constant.
I am taking two aspirins every four hours but it won't cease. Now I can't sleep because it is so bad.
Any thoughts?

Sounds like Arthritis to me,see your Doctor,he will help.
Could be RSI if you drive a lot. Raising the affected leg while you sleep on a cushion might help. IMO Ibuprofen/Nurofen is better for localised pain.
The description of the pain is not accurate enough to form any conclusions.
Does it start at the back of the ankle and then go up the shin (unlikely) OR is it at the front of the foot and then go up the shin?

I agree with Answerprancer...Aspirin would be my last painkiller of choice, change to Ibuprofen 400mgms every 4 hours if necessary. get back to us with your reply.

RSI I doubt it as I drive very little.
It is at the front of my ankle.
Will give ibuprofen a go and let you know what happens.
My doctor's surgery is hopeless. Two weeks to get an appointment with the practice nurse; four weeks to see a doctor.
Thanks.
