My left knee (osteo - a) has pushed me into getting an automatic car. The solution is a knee replacement. Same cause has led to 2 hip replacements, which have given me years of pain-free activity. My OH had spondilitis from his teens, boxing. He rattled on pills but kept agonisingly moving. Others in his position are in wheelchairs. BUT vodka was his crutch
It seems as though one thing affects the other. Stay strong.x

The solution is a knee replacement. Same cause has led to 2 hip replacements, which have given me years of pain-free activity. Talk it over with your doctor. I'm currently contemplating surgery for arthritis in a wrist. The people I have known who have had knee replacements have also been regenerated.

I've also got arthritis in my spine - unfortunately they can't replace vertebrae! Steroid injections help my wrist, but can't really keep having them for ever. Otherwise, you have been given good advice to stay active. Good luck. :)
Em, stick the next cheque to your bank in the post. Just write your account number on it first. I try to avoid getting one, I find them a nuisance.

thought the walk might have been a tad easier, it wasn't and i would have had to go to post office for a stamp,
etc.
Oh dear, sorry. I usually keep a book of stamps just for that purpose Em. Oh and for sending birthday cards. Most corner shops sell stamps nowadays I find. I try and find the easiest way of doing most things:-)

thanks for the advice all the same.
I have this in one knee and am on painkillers for it. My doctor says I am nowhere near ready for the op yet and even tries to put me off it !! I walk almost everywhere as I know this is the best thing for it to strengthen the muscles surrounding it and now I have a new dog I go to the park every day. It is very painful sometimes, but I just get on with it as I have lost loved ones to cancer which is far worse. Maybe a visit to your doctor wouldn't go amiss em ?

Sorry to answer so late, I have had both hips replaced, and thee knee replacements, one done twice, a wrist, replacement, and am on the waiting list for the second wrist, also have a curved spine, I have had arthritis since I was a child, and sometimes the pain is unbearable, but I think of all the children that I have seen whilst my many visits to hospital, and remember all those years ago when it all began, I am nearly 73 years old now, and am in pain quite a lot of the time, but I just walk slowly, and take it easy, I wish all arthritis suffers well, love and best wishes. xxx
Emmie, yes in answer to your post, there is always hope. Would you let me pray for you to be healed?
I sympathise as I too have useless knees. Mine is arthritis caused by ulcerative colitis. I wonder if you have an alter g treadmill near you? My physio has one and they are remarkable- they allow you to walk whilst weighing nothing. Look them up! So you get exercise without the pain. That said, it looks like you need new knees. I have found relief in massage too- my physio squashes my knees/legs around, and the muscles stop being so tight from lack of movement. I can only walk a few steps and am apparently too young to have a knee replacement - and also too heavy- which makes it doubly hard to lose weight when I can't move. Visit a local private physio (your GP may be able to refer you for 6 sessions) and see if that helps. Ultimately though you need new knees, and my advice is, if they allow you to have them (if you are old enough) DO IT. Life's too short to be in pain if it can possibly be avoided.
Good to see you back posting , emmie, or have you been back for a while and I just haven't seen you ? :)

Emmie has been back a week today. In that week she has posted 46 questions. Way to go Em. Keep it up. X
Nice to see your name popping up on here again as well Baths.
How regularly are you walking? If might help if you got a pedometer and kept a record of your daily paces and tried to achieve a daily minimum. A day spent mainly in a sedentary position will make your walking feel more difficult the next day. And if you watch commercial TV, get up and walk up and down or round and round your room whenever the adverts are on. Keeping your joints activated and sinovial fluid moving is really better for you than spending too long in an armchair. Believe me, I have the same problem as you but regular gentle exercise for this condition is better than being motionless foe long periods, however easier an option this feels.
I always try to get someone else to do ceilings, they're difficult even for the moderately stiff and sore like me. Walls I can manage; but is there anyone who cold do the odd really tricky job for you?
