Mr F became very poorly on Sunday, resulting in admission to hospital.
Tests so far are showing he has Hypercalcemia. Not really sure how this happens, they have hinted it may be linked to the lung cancer he had a couple of years back.
Went to see him yesterday, and I was shocked and scared, quite used to him being forgetful, but this was something else again.
Rambling incoherently, seeing stuff that just was not there, (a fully operational Post Office in one of the bed bays, and water from the ceiling and so on.
And yet, amongst all that he was able to direct me to the box and receipt for his Rolex watch, which in 28 years I have NEVER seen.
Also, it appears he attacked another patient who went across to him, thinking he was taking the "P".
Any insight into this condition would be greatly appreciated.

Nice to know, thanks :)

Just trying to clear the irradiate comment from my head, I'm sure it was meant well, but ........The other two posts with all the algebra just went whooooosh over my head, sorry.
It was a correction to a typo in an earlier post, that's why it read oddly.

Anything technical I am sure the Doctors will explain in terms you can understand, ask as many questions of them as you need.
Sorry to hear your bad news about Mr F, ferlew.
As Mamya say's there's always someone here.

Oh I see, I thought it was advice to administer some form of horrendous torture.

When I do ask, they always seem to have to 'ask my senior' - I think I'll ask for a chat with that senior himself on Monday.

Monday I waited over 2 hours for a talk with the doctor.
I'd try to do that before any discharge definitely yes.
Any news today ferlew ?
Anne, I will post what I want, when I want. None of my posts on this thread are rubbish or irrelevant so stop with the spite and vitriol.

Ferlew, I hope things are looking better for you today x
Ferlew,
thoughts & respect are with you.

Thanks all for continued concern :)
Been today, and he is so changeable, so quickly.
I took a video on my phone of the little dog thinks has died, that cheered him up no end.
Ate a jam donut and an apple pasty whilst I was there, so still interested in food.
Oxygen has been pushed up a fair bit because he was quite breathless earlier.
Not a lot of staff on duty with it being the weekend (do they think folks switch off the 'poorly' button Friday night until Monday morning?)
None the wiser really for today's visit.
Looking pale and thin as you would expect, but really pleased when I toddled in through the door. He still has this thing about someone in a blue top coming and telling him that I am running away with someone/having an affair. Just reassurance, nothing more I can do on that front.
Hoping I can can more info after the weekend.
Thanks everyone :)

tut, can gather more into.
Weekends are always a bit frustrating, so glad he's enjoying some tasty treats - a good sign.

You'll have to make light of your clandestine affair, we won't tell honest;-)

Thanks for the continuing feedback
The brain MRI is crucial. If it is normal, then his symptoms are NOT due to the return of his lung cancer and the outlook may be brighter.
Let's hope eh?

I echo what Sqad says. Fingers crossed.

So pleased oh recognised you today and he enjoyed the video, distressing for you to see him breathless though, no arrangements over the weekend re home, hopefully " things" start moving at the beginning of next week. Take care .
week ends are always a bit of a waste of time when it comes to planning.

Has he had his scan or not ? Did they really say he had brain secondaries without er imagining his head ?

Anyway good luck
I`m not an Oncologist but if the results of a brain scan come back as normal, it might be worth asking about a bone scan as hypercalcemia can be a sign of cancer that has spread to the bones.
237...I agree....that will follow on and may well be included in the MRI.

BUT...the problem that presents itself at the moment, is the cause of his mental state. A normal MRI scan will send the medics "scurrying " for an answer.
You answer would be that if bone metastasis are present that may be a cause for his high blood calcium which could be the cause of his mental state.

I agree.
