Hypercalcemia

Mr F became very poorly on Sunday, resulting in admission to hospital.
Tests so far are showing he has Hypercalcemia. Not really sure how this happens, they have hinted it may be linked to the lung cancer he had a couple of years back.
Went to see him yesterday, and I was shocked and scared, quite used to him being forgetful, but this was something else again.
Rambling incoherently, seeing stuff that just was not there, (a fully operational Post Office in one of the bed bays, and water from the ceiling and so on.
And yet, amongst all that he was able to direct me to the box and receipt for his Rolex watch, which in 28 years I have NEVER seen.
Also, it appears he attacked another patient who went across to him, thinking he was taking the "P".
Any insight into this condition would be greatly appreciated.

I actually understood those last two statements, thank you.
Will try and find someone of authority tomorrow and ask.
To be perfectly honest his mental state is currently more difficult to take in than the physical aspect.
See what today brings me when I visit soon.

A nuclear medicine bone scan would certainly be useful if no other cause for hypercalcaemia is identified. If bony metastatic disease was picked up on NM bone scanning, Denosumab 120mg 4-weekly via subcutaneous injection is the treatment of choice.

How was OH today ferlew ?

Thanks for asking Anne, he was in bed when I got there, he had had a fall. Hit his head on the toilet bowl getting off. Seems his slipper has gone walk about.
Took chocolate eclairs, he enjoyed a couple of those. Showed him walk thro' of house and street etc on phone, he did recognise all the rooms, thank goodness.
Barely any staff on duty, so no one to ask anything. Prepping myself for a bit of questioning today.
(Doing an awful lot of sleeping here, most unusual - can only presume it's the stress of the situation, either that or I am being an ostrich)
Forgot the jelly yesterday.

It's a very difficult situation for you ferlew, but we go into overdrive to cope . don't be afraid to jot some questions down when you meet hopefully medical/ nursing staff in the next few days re future arrangements for OH, take care .
