Would you research whether your partner had ginger "genes" before beginning a long-term relationship with them?

I ask the question because a lot of ginger children suffer low self-esteem due to bullying etc, and, the reality is, going through life with ginger hair can be a distinct disadvantage to many people. In some countries, such as Denmark, they turn away ginger-haired donors due to a lack of demand.

When planning a family, is this something you would take into consideration?

No of course I wouldn't. I'm a natural red head, and recently I had to dye my hair brown for a role. I have been asked in for far fewer auditions since then, so clearly red hair isn't a hold back to work. If you are going to worry about what other people do and don't find acceptable in your children, might I suggest you don't have any, because kids need strong role models who instill a sense of confidence in them, not someone who considers trying to eradicate gingers from their gene pool because they're scared of other people. How about eradicating cowardice instead and not breeding, that'd be more beneficial to humanity. What a stupid question.

Seriously?
You'd consider hair colour of any future offspring over love & a possible good relationship?
Eleena ^^^^

OP didn't say a "good relationship" she said a "long term relationship."
Not necessarily the same thing.
Talbot; Quite right, it was 'barmy' the shouted, but regretted it after!
Btw, my two daughters are natural blondes with a faint hint of red when seen in the sunlight, they have always been complimented on it and been told by women how envious they are.

Strawberry bolnde...lol...that's what my uncle classes him as. Reality, he's going grey.
There are some gorgeous redheads. A fabulous look.
I never gave a thought to my partner's genetic hair colouring. However, i did some extensive research into her family history just to make sure there were no Blackburn Rovers fans lurking around in there!
Sorry guys. I think this is another case of a load of Rollocks. When I fell in love centuries ago I did not care if my darling chosen one had Green hair or Pink teeth, she was my delight & I loved her to absolute bits. Be lucky if you have or can find a partner these days.
Ron...sweet :-)
Lots of red-heads in Scotland. I met my red headed man, fell in love and married him. We were married for 30 years. Funnily enough, none of our children have red hair.
I've enjoyed having the last laugh......yes, I did get anti-ginger comments at school....but my contemporaries are all grey, thinning and/or bald - and I still have a full head of red hair.
Ha-ha.
I can't claim to be ginger, Spungle but, until it began to fade recently, I had striking red hair and there was never a time in my life I wasn't happy to be a red head.
My disappointment was that neither of my children were fortunate enough to inherit my hair colouring...one is black haired and one blonde......they just look like lots of other folk....I never did.....
Another advantage of red hair is that it mostly ages well and attractively...... :-)

Like Ken's answer......x

Our daughter has the most fantastic ginger, now going a bit darker, hair, inherited from her paternal grandmother. She did suffer a little at primary school but is now so proud and confident about it she has been known to dye it even redder/darker.
Went to Tokyo when daughter was 16, 5' 8" and proper ginger. People were walking into lampposts, shop windows, almost having car accidents just to look at her. They would stop her on the street and ask to touch her hair or have a photo with her.

Let's say she is proud to be ginger - as anyone should be.
