Drugs which increase the level of serotonin in a patient's brain can be used to treat anxiety but most doctors would prefer to use psychological treatments (such as cognitive behavioural therapy) as their preferred first line of attack.

See here for further information:

Yes, it's called alcohol.
Buenchico is quite right that doctors prefer to use psychological treatments before giving you medication and I would recommend you try them first. I suffer really badly with social anxiety and use calming techniques that help me cope. You should try looking into Mindfulness which is really good at helping you relax. There are loads of apps you can get for your phone that can help you.
Alcohol is not the answer...you just drink too much, lose inhibitions and make a twit of yourself...and then you get more anxious about what people think or say about you so you drink more and the problems get worse.
"Cognitive behavioral therapy" as a preferred first line of attack.......good luck with that as the facilities are not always there and the GP's know it.

Prescriptions for 64.7m items of antidepressants – an all-time high – were dispensed in England in 2016, the most recent annual data from NHS Digital showed. That was 3.7m more than the 61m items dispensed during 2015.
So the GP goes straight to his prescription pad.

Are there anxiolytic drugs? of course there are...plenty as Buenchico's link suggests, but certainly no guarantees that they will selectively.." So That You Dare To Talk More And Become Brave?"
Medicine and particularly anxiolytic drugs are not "designer" drugs.....medicine doesn't work that way.

Download a free app called 'STOPP' to your phone. It really helps me and was part of my CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy). It has honestly changed my life. When I feel myself getting worked up, and can't figure out why or calm myself, I work through the app (takes just a few minutes, sound on or off) and I can then process my thoughts much better.

The symbol is a green square, with a red stopp sign and white writing. xx

Seems a bit of a weird suggestion perhaps, but having been involved in acting since I was a tiny child, everywhere I've been group wise there have also been people there who are seeking to improve their anxiety ( not actors) and particularly seeking to improve their levels of confidence when talking to strangers. We have tools for this you can learn in theatre so you can behave with confidence anywhere really. Rather than go down the medical route might I suggest contacting someone who runs actors classes for such scenarios as it affects us all and we're a really anxious bunch who do need these tools to go about our day to day life of constant rejection xx
Apart from all the good advice above and starting on anti-depressants can be a bit scary but for everyday anxiety things that have a good reason - driving tests, public speaking etc - then beta-blockers can be worth looking at. I understand they curb adrenaline production rather then affect the mind so worth a look (now waiting for the medics to tell me I'm wrong :-)
That is a good idea, kval- or martial arts classes- anything you fancy really.
Good suggestion Kval!
Yes, I have had those, prudie, and you can just take them as and when. It depends what the actual cause is- whether it is actual Anxiety, shyness, nerves....

Beta blockers can help with symptoms of anxiety like fast heart rate, but they won't make you braver so you dare to talk more.
Anyone tried Back Rescue Remedy? Have heard good reports on this.
"Bach" not back duh!
Good suggestion from Maggiebee. I don't like many "herbal" remedies because I have tried a few and they don't seem to do much for me but Bach Rescue Remedy does work and it is not just a placebo effect either. I give this to my cat on Bonfire night and at New Years as he gets terrified by the fireworks. A few drops in his water dish however and he stays calm all evening with them going off all around us.
