If you mean a colonoscopy it’s not painful, just a bit uncomfortable and you may have wind whilst it’s being carried out. The worst part is the stuff you have to drink the night before to clear your bowels out.
Hope that’s not too much info.
yes, Vagus is right, get in the softest, moistest tissues money can buy.
Have had this done twice and it's not at all painful. Second time I watched it on a monitor! Agree with Vagus about the horrible drink. Another warning from experience is not to have a large meal after the procedure - it will go right through you.
I have had it every year for a Xmas present in the last 4.This December should be my last follow up check after cancer of sigmoid colon,.
It is literally a breeze :-). A light sedative and some air is blown up your backside to widen the channel like blowing up a baloon. Camera goes up,smaller than a drinking straw.Job done. Last year I lay on my side. The consultant lifted my gown and what felt like 15 seconds said ,"Fine you can get dressed. The Picolax is nothing much.It just clears your bowel for the camera. Just stay near a toilet for a few hours after taking it. First Picolax was quite quick and effective but I think I am getting immune by now cos it takes longer for effect and not so explosive, shall we say. Bit like Loads of Andrews Liver Salts.
Always nice nurses in attendance to talk to you and hold your hand. I know. My wife worked in her last years in the Endoscopy day care clinic at St Mary's Roehampton and attended many colonoscopys. Never any dramas. You will be fine. :-)
I've had several colonoscopies and they are fine. Make sure you have the sedative.
