I really need to wear earplugs when I'm in bed but every type I have tried causes me to hear my heartbeat, my breathing and swallowing and loud whooshing noises which defeat the object.
Any suggestions?
You are not going to believe this - my neighbour's central heating. It must be set to come on when the temperature drops. It comes on with a thunk which wakes me up then the vibrating hum stops me going back to sleep. It took me a long time to figure out where the noise was coming from.
This may seem counter-intuitive, but for any internal noise (eg tinnitus) or external noise (noisy neighbours, dogs barking, traffic etc) your own "noise machine" can be very helpful. At your bedside, it produces a choice of sounds at adjustable volume which gives your brain something to focus on. It takes a night or two to get used to...I've used one for many years and find it difficult to sleep without it. Lots on Amazon from about £20.
I really wouldn't try sleeping in any sort of earphones/headphones.
I've had to wear wax ear plugs on occasion and yes, I can hear a sort of whooshing noise, not my heartbeat though. I just got used to it as they did block out the offending noises. I don't like wearing them though.
Well, if it's on your side of the bed and the volume is just enough to "mask" the offending noise, she shouldn't be disturbed by it....she may even find it useful. Worth a try.
Here's the one I have....take a look at the comments.
My daughter is a light sleeper and uses wax ear plugs when she comes to stay as she says I snore rather loudly! Myself - if a brass band marched through my bedroom in the middle of the night I would sleep through it.
Are your neighbours unapproachable? Can you tell them it's disturbing your sleep? Maybe they could change the timing for you? Even our own heating wakes me! I do sympathise! I have an app on my pad called Relax Melodies downloaded from playstore. It provides rain, sea, forest breeze sounds etc on a loop. You don't need to pay for anything. It masks any background sounds for me. Worth a try if neighbours don't help.
