Lankeela - why would you take paracetamol "just in case"? I never take over the counter medicines unless I have symptoms that they should relieve.
There is no reason not to.
yes, reactions are seldom instant. My only reaction was a slightly sore arm - but it was more than a week afterwards.

Glad you got your jab and I hope the second one is on time.
agree with diddlydo - I had the AZ vaccine and wasn't told to wait around or not to drive, I just drove straight home. I thought it was only the Pfizer that prompted allergic reactions so that you had to wait 15 minutes afterward?

They're now saying the AZ vaccine is less effective against the South Africa strain. So I can walk the streets of Kent without fear of the British variant, but be careful if I see herds of springbok bouncing around.

emmie, I've only just been able to get out of bed after having the AstraZeneca jab yesterday. First symptom was a headache , then about 11ish last night went freezing cold so went to bed. Then I starting vomiting and this lasted all night. I was either freezing cold or boiling hot. Eventually managed to get some sleep, but feel absolutely drained. I'm going to talk to my GP about it because at the moment, I really don't want to go and have the second one.
I was told to sit in the car for five minuted, and if nothing happened I could go.
yes they have reported that the standard vaccine is less active against the south african strain
AND
the authorities really are running scared to find the cases in the norf ( 80 000 people to be tested.

but it still remains to be seen what it does to the vaccinated population of england ( mainlhy anglo saxon and asian) compared to SA ( white dutch and bantu/matabele/shona)
and for that we have to - - - wait and see ( TB BCG - marked variation between countries)

as far as I can see froo all the Beeb fluff - - - in the lab
the neutralising antibodies with one still neutralise the other.
[bbut the Beeb hacks are fearfully ignorant]
// I was told to sit in the car for five minuted, and if nothing happened I could go.//
but of course to leave the doors open so that if anything did, they could.....
(release the handbrake to have it towed away or sumfing)
I didn't have to close the doors, I wasn't driving. The car wouldn't need towing away, the driver could have driven it.
At mine today they had seats if you wanted to wait but didn't have to. What I'm now wondering is if you get a temp after, how long do you have to have it before everyone has to self isolate?

"Fever after the coronavirus vaccine
It’s quite common to develop a fever after a vaccination. This normally happens within 48 hours of the vaccination and usually goes away within 48 hours.

You do not need to self-isolate or book a test unless you have other coronavirus symptoms or:

you have been told by NHS Test and Protect, or your occupational health team, that you are a close contact of someone who has tested positive for coronavirus
you live with someone who has recently tested positive for coronavirus
you live with someone who has symptoms of coronavirus
If the fever starts more than 48 hours after the vaccination or lasts longer than 48 hours, you should self-isolate and book a test.

apart from a sore, and very stiff left arm, its better, though there is news that its efficiency over the SA varient is debatable and that one might need a third vaccine, which i can't say fills me with glee..
emmie, don't know if you saw my post 15:41 Sun 07th Feb , but I have been unwell also after having the AstraZeneca vac on Saturday. Couldn't eat anything yesterday but managed a cup of tea. Today I've had a cup of coffee and a piece of toast but didn't really feel like eating it. Now I've started to feel really tired and I'm thinking of going back to bed. How are you feeling about having the second jab?
Perhaps the shaking was down to adrenalin?

I experienced sudden shaking at the dentist years ago while waiting for the anaesthetic to take effect. I usually knit when waiting, but couldn't even hold the needles properly, that's how bad it was. The dentist said the anaesthetic jab also contains adrenalin, which keeps the stuff local to where it's needed. Otherwise the body is trying to disperse it. You can see the sense behind that, but ever since I have asked for one without adrenalin, which you are entitled to do.

I haven't yet had the Covid jab, so I can't speak from experience, but I'm thinking perhaps it was your own adrenalin, the fight or flight thing, which caused it. Last time I was threatened by an out-of-control dog, it took hours for the system to calm down after the episode was over. Any medics here?

Hope you feel better soon...

sorry i didn't get to you barsel, i did see your posts, and i feel for you,
i am better now thank heavens, but whatever caused the shaking went on for over three hours. Can't say i am looking forward to next vaccination, and there is talk of a third...
I am a bit anxious about getting the jag because I have no immune system to speak of and I don't wish to end up in hospital but I know I would not last 5 mins if I got Covid.
Thanks Peter Pendant, My treatment to help with a lack of immune system was stopped months ago I used to go into hospital every month for a IV drip but I stopped treatment when most of the wards were full of Covid patients. I am also on steroids everyday, I think another call to my doctor is in order lol
