Dentures

My 90 yr old mum with dementia has false teeth.
She took them out and they are black they are disgusting.
I rang her dentist and they said they would need to be sent away to be cleaned and be gone for 7 days.
She suggested toothpaste should clean them.
I’ve tried the toothpaste and the dirt will not shift.
Does any one know how to get rid of dirt on dentures?

Try using a toothbrush and ordinary liquid soap. Don't forget to rinse them well or your poor mum will be blowing bubbles.

sounds horrible - assuming patent cleaners like Steradent don't work I would scrub them with a 10% solution of bleach & a stiff brush. Rinse well.

Have you tried a Sonic toothbrush on them with some smokers tooth powder.

Have you simply tried a good long overnight soak in Steradent (at possibly double or more the usual strength). It works well for, say, cleaning heavily-stained Thermos flasks, so perhaps it might do the same with dentures?

Thank you I will try the salt and sterident this evening and plain soap and dishwasher tomorrow and see how we get on.

bless my mum - she did die in 1983, but so proud when she cleaned her teeth, locked up house front and back and cleaned them with Domestos bleach. Probably things have moved on now.
