The doctor is going to send me some info on Melatonin, what i want to know is, does any one take it. what is its basic use. He thinks it might help my sleep pattern. Would it interact with medication that i currently take like sertraline and BP meds.

Me and others have recommended you try Melatonin more than once but you ignored us. So I'll tell you my experience once again. I've been taking it on and off for years, only one 1mg tablet at a time. If I take it more than 4 nights running I get nightmares (always same one) so I never take it more than 2 nights in a row and not very often. Incidentally does anyone else...

I had considered buying some. I haven't slept all night for over 10 years. I wake up after about two hours.

I looked at Pasta's link and it seems that I can't take it as I have Manic Depression. I hope that it helps you emmie.
Have the replies you've received helped you to make up your mind Em?

not yet LB, but i will consider what you said, and see what the doctor sends me as well. as i take mental health meds and suffer from depression, which is under control for now. He did say its for a short period only!! to regulate the sleeping pattern. what worries me most is whether the meds i take already are affecting me badly with sleep.
I can't take the nightmares i get already, they are horribly disturbing, are intense and make me feel awful. so will weigh up what everyone has contributed - thanks for that and see.
I tried Melatonin when I was on holiday in Seville with my mother (due to her thunderous snoring). It did nothing for me.

A skinful of gin worked better.

i hate gin Lcg, and consider that in the past alcohol induced sleep isn't for me. I need my 7/8 hours rest, but feel awake early now the mornings are very light. I am undecided what to do.
It was only a temporary measure whilst I was on holiday with my mother. Both my mother and MIL are terrific snorers. You've never heard anything like it. I am a completely silent sleeper.

One more day down the beach with my little rascal and then home tomorrow. We had a lovely meal last night but unusually didn't' order any wine to go with it. OH had two ciders and I had two gin cocktails. We had whitebait and calamari to start (we tend to share starters), he had fish and chips for his main (and it was an absolute WHALE of fish) and I had mussels and hand-cooked chips.

There was a table of six la-di-dahs next to us who were unpardonably rude to the staff and a couple sitting behind OH who were having a right row (I think she'd had a little too much libation).

I hope these people can go abroad next year.
Emmie, I do apologise for all that waffle ^^ I thought I was posting on GMEB. Need to find my reading glasses !!

sounds like you are having a great time, hasn't it gone quick......
Question Author
no worries Lcg, i understand
It's gone very quick this year because we haven't had the full week. We lost one night because we wanted to attend my uncle's party.
Em, works for some not for others. Gave some to daughter and it works for her. Gave some to son, nothing.
Emmie, there's nothing to be lost by trying the melatonin and all to be gained.
Remember, it's not a drug as such...it's a hormone, that our body produces any way. Just not enough sometimes.
My 13 year old niece was prescribed melatonin, adhd. It did work- but she started having panic attacks two weeks later, until it was stopped again. Now, two years later, she might take one, if really necessary, but not on a regular basis.
Intersting Info on melatonin. I asked by GP to prescribe it for me (sleep issues) but unfortunately on NHS its only prescribed for folk over 50y or in occasional cases youngsters with add / adhd
You can buy it from Amazon eve- just see how you go. Most of these things are just trial and error for different people.
