Are you a porridge person?
I'm getting a bit fed up with my usual breakfast so thought I'd buy some porridge oats instead, but when I looked on the Tesco website, I was amazed at how many different brands and types there are.
If you like porridge and have tried different types, could you recommend any please?

I buy the cheapest "own brand" porridge oats from Aldi. Make it with water and salt in the microwave. I then add fresh fruit like blueberries, rasps or a banana and some milk. Love it.
^I agree..the cheapest own-brand (I've had Asda and Waitrose in a large plastic bag) gives just as good results in a microwave.
I love porridge, especially with full fat milk and brown sugar. Agree with other posters about quality, I get Tesco own brand and it's fine.
I find own brand oats a bit coarse so I stick with Quaker. Salt is a must but milk is a no-no.
I like it too and do it in the micro - but unlike some people - can take it quite lumpy or thin - preferably lumpy then a little fruit. all makes are good.
Avid the sachets, they are a total rip-off.
Avid the sachets - full of sugar too
There is no sugar in the sachets of porridge unless you buy the flavoured varieties. They are quick and convenient but not good value.

I buy the cheapest porridge oats and ding them in the microwave with half semi-skimmed milk and half water. I have it plain like that, every day. I enjoy it

I did try Tesco porridge oats once but wasn't keen.
The nicest porridge I've ever tasted is the one you get in hospital believe it or not.
Probably not a brand you can buy in the shops.
Thanks for the tips of what to avoid.
I alternate porridge (done in microwave) with egg on toast or a bacon butty. I put fruit (chopped banana/blueberries/strawberries) & Greek style coconut yoghurt in the porridge.

I use Aldi's basic porridge oats.
Yes, get the supermarket own brand and cook with water.
I bought a porridge from Starbucks or similar and had to throw it away it was so sweet.

davebro I always have a small fry up at the week-end but during the week I have assorted berries or a banana and Greek yogurt.
Perhaps when I try porridge again I could could put berries in it.
You put yogurt in the porridge also?
I like porridge, but it just doesn't keep me going. When I used to have it, it would be rolled oats or jumbo oats. Something with a bit more texture.
Barsel, you could do overnight oats...oats, yogurt, seeds or nuts and fruit layered in a deep jar/container. In the fridge overnight. No cooking needed.
I too buy Aldi oats. I make mine the old fashioned way on stove top with with almond or oat milk. A little sugar and fruit.
I also do overnight oats, covering oats with either yoghurt or orange juice then adding fruit in the morning.
Aldi own brand made with water in microwave.
Add their Greek yogurt, blueberries and grapes.
Every day except when I go on holiday.
Great, especially on a winter's morning.
another tick for the cheap ow brand stuff - just as good imo.
you water and salt people are weirdos though ...
I use Morningflake Oats, touch of sugar and salt and made with milk. Just plain or with a dash of cream if I have any. Made on stove top. When I was in hospital, I loved the porridge they served.
Why stove top when the microwave does it in a fraction of the time and no sticky pans to wash.
