Apparently it's better to buy them late afternoon (if you can last out tramping round the shops that long) because by then your feet (with any swellings) are more likely to be right size for finding any areas that pinch. I suspect that for many of us (females) at least, buying the right size shoe is like buying the correct cup bra, i.e. we think we know what we are until we're actually properly measured. Some of the better shoe shops used to have a shoe measuring service (size & width). I haven't seen that service lately. Perhaps we should all start asking for it again, then maybe we'd all be saved a lot of foot misery.
