Are You On Permanent Medication
58 Answers
Having recently joined the permanent medication brigade (in my case blood-thinning Clopidogrel and cholesterol-reducing Atorvastatin) and slowly coming to terms with the repeat-prescription process, I began to wonder how many other Abers are under a similar life-sentence.

I'm on women's HRT patches (as a medical trial for prostate cancer), which involve incredibly little effort from me. I simply phone the hospital every few months, to say that I'm running low, and a courier brings a new supply to my door. I then just change the patches every Tuesday and Friday. Easy peasy!
I'm also on amlodipine for hypertension which, again, isn't really a problem for me. I just go online once a month to order a fresh supply and then, a few days later, nip down to the pharmacy to pick them up. Then I take one tablet each evening.
I've also been taking an omeprazole tablet for heartburn daily (ordered alongside and taken with the amlodipine each evening) but I couldn't ask for it when I went online yesterday as I'm due for a review from my GP. I'll try to go without it first and then see what happens though.

Yes, HBP medication since my teens, statins, diabetes medication, antidepressants ( for last 25 years), occasional course of antipsychotic drugs, lansoprasole (sp?). About a dozen all together. Recently stopped taking Lithium due to it killing my kidneys and short circuiting my brain.
And chocolate & pepsi max.

I've tried twice to come off the omeprazole but each time my heartburn has returned within a day or two. I was originally prescribed them during my chemotherapy, two years ago, when intense heartburn was one of the side effects that I suffered. So I'm now left wondering whether the situation might have improved over time. (I might try stopping them before I run out of my existing supply. Then I'll be able to tell the doc whether or not I need them in the future).
