Help! I have really sore ulcers mostly on my tongue and some inside mouth, they are so painful. As soon as I get rid of them I get a whole load of new ones. Bonjela helps for a while but not long and it tastes horrible and its expensive the amount I go through. I know my ulcers are related to stress which I'm trying hard not to be but that is to do with another health problem so cant help it. Any suggestions on what I can put on them? Hopefully nothing expensive.

gargle with salt water. it tastes disgusting but really works. You might want a drink of something nice tasting standing by for afterwards.
anbesol. It is only a couple of quid from any chemist and it treats it as well as soothing the pain. It's great!
try eating more vitamin b - marmite, wheatgerm
Salt water is definitely the best thing, but with all these things it is best to tackle the source of the problem not treat the physical manifestations. Good luck x
Do you take multi vitamins? We used to get ulcers regularly until we started taking a multivitamin every day and hardly ever have them now!
I've never done it but my brother swears by it, he always puts a little bit of salt on his finger then applies it directly to the ulcer, it seems to 'burn' them off . It is cheap too !

K99, I get horrendous mouth ulcers regularly, so I sympathise with you. Bonjela or Anbesol are great for anaesthetising the area, but they are slippery and don't stay on your gum or tongue for long. There is a cortisone-based cream for mouth ulcers called ADCORTYL (available from Boots at around 4.50 for a tube). I rinse with salty water first, then with clean water and then apply ADCORTYL. It sticks to the gum or tongue and forms a coating over the sore area, a bit like latex skin. The best time to put it on is at bedtime, so that you are not disturbing the coating for several hours and it gets time to work. The "skin" will still be there in the morning, and you can rinse it away. It makes your mouth feel dry and sticky, but it is the best cure that I have found. Hope the sores clear up in time for your Christmas dinner.

My hubby was plagued by mouth ulcers til he got investigated and discovered he had coeliac disease (gluten intolerance). Now his diet is changed he hardly ever gets them.
