I don't get it.
Is it in the wrong category?
Sounds like a pain in the.... neck.

Yeah I, reckon it ought not be in "jokes".

Suggest a standard painkiller, and try to sit on the left.
does this sound like him?

if pain goes down thigh or leg - then it would be sciatica - very painful hope your friend's bum gets better soon Henry
I think it's likely to be pain from the hip joint. Standard treatments for osteoarthritis I woulda thought. Painkillers, physio, light exercise, vitamin(D) supplement.
Sounds as if it's the sciatic nerve. I get it. Ibuprofen, ibuprofen gel (don't overdose!), massage, gentle stretching. Foot on first stair & leaning forward sort of thing.
Not enoigh information here whic is of the upmost imortance.
I cannot make a diagnosis or recommend treatment on the history given.

One of the commonest causes is trochanteric bursitis in which rest is essential and exercise will exacerbate the situation.

My opinion, tell your mate to rest, take ibuprofen and see what happens over the next 4-5 days.
