Had this cough for about a week, no temperature, not Covid, not a cold with it. Have had a lung infection in the past and have been told I have Bronchiecstasis. If I breathe in deeply, though, it doesn’t make me cough. So could I have a lung infection? I don’t really feel Ill, it’s just this racking cough ….. is it just a virus do you think? Thanks all.

That’s ok sqad, I didn’t/don’t take things personally, just offer my opinion and leave people to it. My first port of call is always the NHS site, to see what they say, I don’t always take their advice myself.
I had tests for bronchiectasis myself a couple of years ago, fortunately I don’t have it, but I know how worried I was at the time, that probably colours my opinion for smurfy.
I doubt there’s anyone here on this site who doesn’t appreciate your professional opinion and advice xx

Well l saw doc today (phoned 8am, when surgery opened, I was 26th in queue !). But she did see me, and it’s just a virus, chest is clear. Thanks for all your help everyone x
I doubt many people will get through winter without a cough of some kind. If you wish to ask sqad do so. For those who reply and have no medical knowledge ignore them , try NHS choices, very simple to follow and easy accessable.
Good to hear, Smurf. I managed to get my chest x-ray done today. I'll have to wait and see what the results come back as.

Feedback appreciated smurfy.......;-)
Great smurfy, glad it’s nothing worse :)
Great news, smurfchops, you must feel hugely relieved. Well done for patiently waiting - no pun intended.
You don't need to be medically trained to offer help or advice in Body and Soul. Everyone is welcome in the category.
Sorry Ed but if you offer advice on medication and you are not medically trained that is downright dangerous.
11.50 I agree with that, as long as the person giving advice is very clear that they are not a health professional, nor use words that might indicate they are. People are very trusting, too trusting, and with the state of the NHS at the moment may take advice that is incorrect or at worse dangerous.
Nice to hear you got sorted out smurfchops, hope you et better in time for Xmas!
I have noticed that Sqad often knows to ask about other existing conditions/medication. He will also state when he feels that there is insufficient information for him to assist. If some poor soul is in great pain, suffering lack of sleep or simply at the end of their tether they might just latch on to any post and take any medication they can lay their hands on. The point is that once you pick up a thread there is no sign of the disclaimer.

smurfchops, glad you are feeling better :)
Yes Choux and I should point out that Sqad does always question medication but carried out a review of someone's medication.

I have seen people question someone's medication and advise them not to take something that has been prescribed - I think that is where the danger is - if some sort of disclaimer can be put on that it is not AB advice but the individual advice and their risk if they choose to listen to it.
Reading this thread, I think sqad may as well join the strike. :0)

Medical advice is dispensed here at 09:46 by someone who criticises me for doing just that.

I have never pretended or purported to be medically trained and have been quite candid about my actual role in the NHS. I have acquired a fair bit of knowledge over the years, as have my colleagues at the same level as me. I should be able to contribute to these threads and even bounce ideas around with Medical professionals and take part in these threads without being hounded because of who I am and not what I post.

I feel that AB needs to increase its number of Moderators, not only to deal with the spam but to deal with the proliferation of threads being ruined by people who only want to attack the poster and not the post, across all categories of AB.

I've nothing further to add. Thank you to the ED for clarifying that anyone is free to contribute to these threads.
And, body & soul is not always about medication. I think that is what the ED means??
And so it continues...
With respect, I think we should all bow out of smurfchops' thread. Continue the discussion elsewhere?
^ Yep, but always remember a problem shared is........
Redhelen and anyone else, there is a disclaimer in the Body and Soul category:

"Disclaimer: Information here is only advice from other members and must not be taken as professional guidance."

If we were only allowing medical professionals to comment there would be no point having this section - or, for that matter, many other sections of the website - at all.
