Hacking Cough

Had this cough for about a week, no temperature, not Covid, not a cold with it. Have had a lung infection in the past and have been told I have Bronchiecstasis. If I breathe in deeply, though, it doesn’t make me cough. So could I have a lung infection? I don’t really feel Ill, it’s just this racking cough ….. is it just a virus do you think? Thanks all.

The problem is the way it is offered, and to be quite clear I am not singling out any one user. An anecdotal suggestion, or suggestion to try over the counter meds that have personally worked for them is fine. To use medical terminology when a simple layman's term would be better understood, is, in my opinion, trying to give the answer the gravitas it may not actually have. It does not affect me, the only med advice I take is from a practice nurse, GP or pharmacist .

Personally, I don't think serious medical advice on drugs,treatment , or worse still, diagnoses, should be allowed on here. There is plenty of advice available on the Internet by reputable sites such as NHS patient information.

Body and soul is not just about health and of course we should all contribute if we want.

I have moaned on here about my present series situation but would never ask advice.



But we don't know how genuine people are when they state there knowledge or qalificaions

In fact my ĢP was very impressed that ì am using Sepsis Trust because he says they know more than he does.

That's a shame Sqad, I've always appreciated your answers whenever I've had a medical problem. You've never given me any bad advice in Body & Soul.

I think that if someone is making enquiries where over the counter medication is sufficient, then offering 'what works for me' is allowable.
If someone wants general information about treatment or medication regarding a specific condition...then it should always be given with the caveat that their own medical professional should be their first and best source of reliable information.

Yes you will Sqad because you will guide people in the right direction. Without knowing a person's medical history it's dangerous to give advice on what could be very serious for one person and not another.

Oh dear sqad, I don’t think anyone was having a go at you were they? I certainly didn’t see anything which could be construed as such, so I don’t see any reason for you not to keep posting.
Many people have a lot of faith in your opinions and advice, including me, so it’d be a shame for you to stop. Just because people search the internet and look at other medical sites and opinions doesn’t denigrate yours.

I've had a message from our surgery saying they are hopelessly overloaded at present and will I refrain from contacting them except in an emergency.

Sqad is a very useful backstop whose postings bring a degree of relief and comfort, and hounding him off this site is a tragedy.

Thank you all for your good wishes and advice. LadyCG, hoping you have nothing to worry about with your results. Doctor did say if I do get ‘chesty’ I can ask for antibiotics. Can’t complain about the service. Happy Crimble to one and all.

Thanks, Smurf. The Salbutamol hasn't helped so there's no element of my asthma contributing to my symptoms. With the pain in my back at the base of my ribs it's certainly another pneumonia I'm afraid so I might need prolonged antibiotics to get rid. At least I've had my x-ray done extremely quickly (it was only requested last Friday). There are some perks at least to working for the NHS :)

I'm sure if I speak with the Consultant I work for he'll have a word with his BFF in Radiology and get it reported in a timely manner and then a decision on further management can be made.
