Whilst channel hopping I stumbled across an old episode of 'Keeping Up Appearances'. Not sure how popular it used to be but I remember watching an episode years ago and thought it was quite funny, but today - I watched it and just couldn't believe that anyone ever watched it! Was just so, well, unfunny lol. Or is it just me??

Anyone feel the same bout any other programmes??

It was always mildly amusing even if belly laughs were few.

Some things I watch on nostalgia channels do seem to have dated; or maybe it's me expecting more from older tech/skills/whatever. Just have to make allowances though.

I was bit funny - not in the same league as Fawlty Towers, The Office, Some Mothers, OFAH, Father Ted or even One Foot in the Grave. But hey they don't all hit the spot for everyone.

I'd say it's on a par with The Good Life, Butterflies, Ever Decreasing Circles.

Fawlty Towers seems to have had a great following, but I didn't find it in the least bit funny. Didn't like George and Mildred either. Having said that, the TV channels have to cater for all tastes.

No Place Like Home.  Tried to watch a repeated episode recently and it was dire, despite Martin Clues and William Gaunt

I always rather cringed about Hyacinth's antics - but even they are more amusing than any modern so-called 'comedies'.  I never could stand the Alf Garnett one and as for 'On the buses' - words fail me.

'Yes Minister' etc. are still amongst the best and the Fry & Laurie Woodhouse saga.

love watching keeping up appearences and Allo Allo

i don't like Monty Python now

I would never get on with Keeping up Appearances...but my brother, on the other side of the pond, thought it was the best thing since sliced bread 😃 😀

Think after several episodes of K.U.A with Hyacinth shrieking ' RICHARD!!' every 30 seconds it wears a bit thin lol...

Question Author

What about Birds of a Feather??

Again, adequate, but I'd look first to see if anything else was on.

come on! The Bucket Woman? Genius!

Question Author

LOL!! was she ever in anything else?? As that's the only thing I can picture her in

I loved the scenes with daisy and Onslow!

( and it's BOO-KAY : ) )

IMO the thing about "KuA" is that Hyacinth is the only funny person in the entire show, everyone else is just annoying. Patricia Routledge carried the whole programme and out-performs the whole cast. Every episode has the same plot, just in a slightly different place, and it's always crap, but PR sometimes makes it watchable.

As for other old shows, I don't want to start an actual war here, but Dad's Army drives me nuts. I know they're supposed to be old and bumbling, but sometimes they are just plain ****ing retarded. They literally can't do anything simply lol. Surely Pike can't be *that* stupid. 😝 I hate it lol

Question Author

lol not just me then as I also hate Dads Army!

19:17 seriously? Patricia Routledge is a legend on stage and screen! She was in Steptoe" FGS!

Gavin & Stacey every time.  Enjoying the repeats on BBC3.

I once watched an old episode of Steptoe and really couldn't believe how rude Harold was to his dad Albert.

Question Author

Oops sorry TTT! Never watched Steptoe.... but genuinely don't remember her in anything else.

Gavin & Stacey - I used to love it, have watched it so many times lol.
