I read somewhere that these can be a surprisingly efficient way to heat ones home.

When the letters are issued informing pensioners that the fuel allowance payments they depended on are to be cancelled could a pamphlet about this candle and pot idea be included?

Every little would help in these hard times.

I can just imagine my dad's response! The steam coming out of his ears would warm a small room 😃

My tip is to invest in a onesie!! 😁

Can't see it heating a home, but my dad used to put a candle inside an upturned terracotta flower pot in his greenhouse to keep the winter frost at bay. Seemed to work.

^Yes, keep a small area a degree above what it would otherwise have been...and that's it.

And, please somebody, inform the fire brigades!

Always looked highly risky to me.  Plus you can only get the heat energy out that you put in.

I'm guessing you could take the chill off the room if left long enough, but it isn't going to compete with a proper heater.

A friend of mine tried this - believes everything he's told!  It made absolutely no difference to the warmth in the house.  Out of pocket because he bought the pots and candles.

They were used in the tiny Anderson shelter's during the war, theyre good for warming your hands when they're freezing cold
