Spent most of yesterday in A&E and was given some tablets that say not to take indigestion remedies within 2 hours or 2 hours before.

Is it ok to take my lanzoporale or do I have to allow 2 hours as well.

i was a bit confused when I left and didn't notice the instructions.

It means stuff like Gaviscon or Rennies, they'll be fine with your prescibed medication which works in a different way.

Ring 111 or any pharmacy.  Lansoprozale is an indigestion remedy so best check with the professionals

Thank you

You could check to see if there are any interactions between the two medicines.

I currently have to take a med which says the same, I only have to take it once a day in the morning.

I take the med as soon as I get up in the morning then wait the required two hours before taking the lansoprazole which I'm prescribed. I consider lansoprazole to be an indigestion remedy.

What tablets were you given?  It's normally the gaviscon or rennie type that block meds being absorbed.  I can check for you.

Lansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor it works by reducing acid production it doesn't affect absorption. Technically it isn't an indigestion remedy, it's a preventer.

Rowan I was given Ciprofloxacin 750mg twice a day

If Ciprofloxacin is prescribed for twice a day the pills should be taken roughly every 12 hours. Can you work a schedule for your other medication around this

Calmck, I have a terrible memory for taking tablets I normally take my morning ones with my first cup of coffee.
I will try and spread them out.

no separate them - er take them separately

if you google it you get

Omeprazole (Prilosec) is a type of drug called a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It's used to treat conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and heartburn. Interaction result. Taking Cipro with omeprazole could make Cipro less effective than usual.

and lansop is omep;s sister

and can the usual people on AB  who say I know zippety-zilch about pharmacology please keep their mouths shut ?

May I draw your attention to the rubric for this topic :-

yes I agree with that ( advice here is not to be taken seriously or relied on) I have no insurance.

Good chapter in Mikhail Bulhakov's Notes of a Country Doctor when the miller takes all his quinine in one dose ) he had malaria)

Lansoprazole can cause a decrease in the absorption of the meds I'm currently taking and so decrease their efficacy, which is why I allow the two hour gap.

I may know zippety-zilch about pharmacology but I do listen to what my doctor says and he says that it's okay to take my morning stuff in the morning and night time stuff at night, all of them together including azoles and olols and twenty-odd years on it's working out just fine thanks Peter.

Thanks, sorry I am late getting back, PP is right   so if you can work out a schedule for the cipro and work the rest around it you will be fine,  Two hours is  the best gap but if you struggle to keep strictly to that it won't make too much difference if you were a bit out.  Just do the best you can  You will probably need the 'zole,  cipro can upset your gut and anything that helps is worth trying to accomodate.   If in doubt in the future always check with your pharmacist, I and others on here can look up interactions etc. In  the bnf or the data sheets but a your local pharmacist will be most up to date.

Thank you all, I would normally ask but I was exhausted after being in A&E for 8 hours

You probably need to ask Moses.
