I thought muchausens is where you lie about someone else? hypocondria is where you imagine you are ill...it depends if you mean someone who knows they are not ill and lies for attention or someone who genuinley believes they are ill? x x

danni, lying about someone else is called munchusen by-proxy. this tends to involve a mother and child

Munchausen syndrom is a mental illness where a person acts like they have a phsical or mental problem when they have caused the problem they have a inner need to be seen as ill or injured and are prepared to go through painful tests and operations to keep up this pretense and get sympathy! parents with this condition also but this upon their children,making out the children are illto get attention! If you listen to Eminem lyrikes you will hear him rap about this as his mum had this conditon and made him feel like he was ill!

danni i agree with your first answer but after looking into munchousen i think that this maybe the problem

My sister suffers from this and it is was extremely distressing for the family when we believed what she said. She did not bank on two of her sisters becoming nurses though and this really seems to have stopped alot of what she was doing, as we could relatively easily disprove what she said.

and Danni79, why is someone correcting you patronising? Trying to help? I quote 'twisted freak' , not helpful in the slightest and I cannot understand why you got stars for that!

Unfortunately society is very intolerant of mental illness, Munchuasens is a recognised psychiatric condition.

I would be interested to hear your opinion of people with anorexia, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder etc
