I posed this question at the end of another question I had, the response from 3 people was No, definately not, and it seemed to rile a few people up... so please be honest in your answers...

If your boyfriend or girlfriend accidently left her diary out or open on the kitchen table and went away for a weekend, how many would read it?

By the way, Im not talking about friends diaries... because in all honesty I wouldnt have an interest in them - we confide in eachother anyway... im talking Boyfriends/Girlfriends only!

I've had my diary read before by a friend and I just felt so violated. I was going through something at the time that I wanted no one but myself and my boyfriend to know about and she read all about it and my inner thoughts.

I partly blame myself for leaving it stuffed under my pillow when she was staying in my room that night (although I didn't know she was) but our relationship has never been the same since, we barely speak now. Also we were living with another friend at the time and I know she told her because I heard them talking about it. So the answer to the question is no, I would never read someone's diary as once read, you can never go back. Especially if it was something you didn't want to read...

"if they are not addressed to me"

Watch yourself because thats actually against the law.

I wouldn't read somebody elses diary. Can only imagine it would lead to finding something out that you didn't want to know.
I would like to think I wouldn't, but curosity would make me pick it up and have a sneaky peak

I have! muhahaha!

Never thought I would but the fact that I might be in there and the fact that It was a mission to pick the cheap plastic padlock to do so was just too tempting to pass up!

It was an amazing read, and I confessed. And didn't actually get in THAT much trouble :D

In the old days I probably would have, but I have learned through experience that if someone wants to be with me then it must come from them, and that they are not my property and they should be entitled to their own space. If you were to find something unsettling in the diary then what would you do then ... you would either have to confront them and so admit you had read the diary with all that it would bring, or keep it to yourself, and already the dynamics of the relationship has changed. This has only come to me through years of experience though, and I am sure in my young days I would not have been able to resist, but that was an insecurity in myself which I have now come to terms with.

4 get me not

My mother read my fathers diary in the sixties and wrote her own comment up the margin in green ink !

I have had my diary read a few times and you learn not to put anything er incriminatinng in it !

Defo, would be her fault for being so careless.
temptation would get the better of me but i would be annoyed with myself afterwards.

i would read it, but then again i am the tpe of person that goes through peoples bathroom cabinets when visiting their houses

No I dont!!! well actually we do to an extent, but girlfriends do confide in their friends alot, Im sure blokes do too - you know over a beer or game of pool. If I didnt confide/talk or moan to my girlfriends about the little things then we would be arguing all the time because some things you just wont tell your partner, I know someone now will get on their high horse and say oh well, if you cant tell them EVERYTHING then you should not be with them blah blah blah, but Im just one of those persons that likes to have girly talks with my friends, thats the way its always been.
I keep a diary but of course realise that if you are naive enough to put anything private or intimate in your diary then you leave yourself wide open for attack!
Yes I definitely would! Especially if they'd left it out. If you read something you didn't want to see you could just use the excuse that it fell open on the page. If you purposely went looking for the diary while it was put away then it would be different.....
Definitely goldheart some things you tell girls and not your bloke. As some things men just dont understand. And Im not saying that in a nasty way as Im sure blokes would agree there is some things women dont understand aswell.

"...some things you just wont tell your partner..."

Which is why it's never a bright idea to read someone else's diary

I definately would, as i dont trust my boyfriend at all really, ive got things out of his mates 2 by pretending 2 already know. I no thats bad but really he shouldnt have done bad things that he needed 2 lie about. If i read something bad i would just be straight with him and say i read it and if he couldnt really get angry as hes the 1 in the wrong, do u get wot i mean?

However, just thought id add he doesnt keep a diary, and whats more, hes read mine
Jenni. If you don't trust him then what the hell are you doing going out with him???!!!
Becuz im stupid - obviously !!
