I wasn't quite sure where to put this question but this was the most relevant topic, so...

I really like this guy at my school, but a few months ago, he was broken hearted by my best mate who said she went out with him for a joke. He then turned to me to lean upon, but after that, I really fancied him. A couple of days ago I told him that I liked him, but he just brushed me off. Any Ideas of how to feel less embarrased and get over it?

But also my mum thought that because I had fancied an older celebrity for along time (Although I always knew I could never go out with him or anything!) but she reckons that everyone feels that they cannot compete with his celebrity standards, although I did stop with it for sometime. They still think I'm too aloof.

I have low self-esteem because my best mate is really gorgeous and clever, I'm either looked over or just a pal.

I can guarantee 'He' will be out there somewhere you just haven't met yet........... Those who look very rarely find Silversky, just hang in there, enjoy life and see what happens.

oh silversky - life is like that sometimes.

firstly, this guy might have brushed you off for a variety of reasons. maybe it was too soon after your mate hurt him - male pride etc. perhaps he thought that was a cruel joke too. try to talk to him and tell him that you still want to be his friend and you never know, things might develop. you will have to be patient though, play it cool !

as for the celebrity 'crush' - did you tell everyone you were in love with this celeb ? i wouldnt have thought anyone with an ounce of sense would feel like they were being compared - thats very childish if they do so they would not be worth your time anyway.

as for your self esteem, well you sound like a very caring person. So your pal is gorgeous and clever ?

so what ? beauty is in the eye of the beholder. im sure if you are as nice as you sound, your inner beauty will shine through. a lovely personality is much more important, dont be a shrinking violet !

good luck honey

thanks both for your kind comments.

PhilBy you're right, he most likely isn't my dream man.

And you are right silverdaler, anyone with an once of sense should see that being in love with a celebrity is just harmless fun.

The people who know me best (like him) should know that, unlike my friend did. I don't play with peoples emotions, as I see that as extremely unfair.

And lastly thank you for your self esteem comments, although it can be tough to believe personally. I will at least try to believe in myself a little more.

you sound like you have matured overnight !

you go get em girl !!!!!!!!!! xx

Just a note to say, i was in your position as a teenager, was looked over or just a pal, as my best friend was very beautiful, and i wasnt and not very confident either,

weird how things change, im 24 next month and im the confidnet one now, well, ugly ducking story i guess!

i love my best friend we have been through thick and thin but she gets married in July and is battling to keep her weight down, and is defo not outgoing and confident!

thats just reminded me of our school reunion. nature did not seem to have been kind to the girls i used to envy, but i hardly recognised the 'ugly ducklings' - they turned out to be beautiful swans!
