We are due to move into a rented house a week on Saturday. The landlady is there til a week today and has already moved her stuff into her new house. We need somewhere to store our furniture til we move in and were going to ask if we could put it in the garage at the house as of this Friday. We understand it would be at our own risk, insurance wise etc but do you think its cheeky to ask? The house and garage are empty and she is just staying there til her moving date.
I don't think it's cheeky to ask. I did something similar years ago and it was no problem. I would make sure you're insured, as you pointed out, and that you trust the woman not to have a good rout through all your stuff!
If you don't ask, politely, then you don't get at the end of the day.
Mind you, her Solicitor will tell her not to let you, because far too many things can go wrong from her point of view (squatters' rights, implied licence, etc.), so fingers crossed she doesn't ask him!
