I have tried loads of diferent creams but nothing seams to work they heal and then seem to split again within a day
I know there is a definite reason for this but I really can't think what it is!

I suggest you ask your GP or pharmacist for advice - using moisturising cream is just covering up the problem, not curing it.

Good luck.
I use a product called New skin, I have had it for years so i don't know wether it is still available, ask at the chemist.
I have had this problem a couple of times lately, it was just like my thumb had been cut with a razor and had vinigar rubbed in it. I now think I have pinpointed the cause after the 2nd time and put it down to strong deturgents, it occurred each time that I shampooed the dog, so next time its on with the rubber gloves. If that was not the cause, it sure did'nt help matters.
I have this problem alo, with having eczema. I usually put a da of vaseline on the crack and pop a plaster over it.
Recommend Diprobase cream which was recommended to me by another AB user. You can get it over the counter at the chemist ..about three pounds a tube.Brilliant stuff. It's an emollient and has no lanolin and forms a barrier on the skin.It certainly cleared my red itchy hands and what I call spud peelers thumbs.I used to get these nasty cracks on the sides of my fingers but they have all cleared up since using this.
snow storm, you can get it from most chemist its brill and will heal them in no time, only thing that works for my old man, he's a builder so his hands go through the mill everyday, and when i looked after horses it was the only thing that worked too.
I used to work as a brickie so used to really suffer with these painful little cuts. I tried loading my hands with cream, but in the end I found that wearing washing up gloves (yes they laughed but in the end they all wore them!) held the moisture in and stopped them drying out.

Diprobase, definitely, as Shaneystar has said. It is cheap, very effective and is used by the medical professional in hospitals for hand washing as well. You can get it in huge pump containers for about 10.00 and it will last for months. As Shaney says as well as being a moisturiser it is also a barrier.

thankyou everyone for your ideas I will definatly try the diprobase cream
Another cream I would suggest is Atrixo. Very effective. Also, covering the affected part with an Elastoplast dressing will usually allow it to heal.
And, as Thunderbird says, avoid detergents.
Good luck!
